Through our practice-led services, we work with boys and men from childhood to 25 to help them become healthy, dynamic, future men. From structured school programmes and youth hubs, to individual one-to-one sessions and outreach work, we provide the vital support and advocacy that changes boys and young men’s lives for the better. We focus our work with boys and men who face structural discrimination and disadvantage, including of race, income, and community. The most useful gift we can give to young men individually and collectively is the gift of hope and self-belief that comes with finding the tools to foster resilience and navigate their own future. We work to enable boys and men to thrive rather than simply survive. This builds social and community capital and affects issues of poverty, violence, lack of education and aspiration for all.ROLE OUTLINEAs the Chief Operating Officer you will strategically lead on the finance, HR and operational activities of Future Men to ensure that strategic and business objectives are delivered and the organisation is protected. The position will suit a strategic and innovative thinker with experience in growing and developing organisations. Above all, you will be a team player who can help take the organisation to its next level.Working in a small organisation there is inevitably a need to be hands on and flexible in your approach in supporting the small team to meet and deliver to objectives. KEY RESPONSIBILITIESHUMAN RESOURCESDevelop, lead and implement the HR strategy for staff, trustees, volunteers and apprentices, with input from HR Sub Committee of the Board. Champion a performance culture – promote, enable and monitor performance management within induction, probation, supervision, disciplinary and capability procedures.Champion and oversee employee wellbeing - in policies and procedures, people management and support, reflective practice, learning and development, and communication. Lead on learning and development - draft and implement annual Learning and Development Plan to support individual and organisational success.Lead on recruitment strategy and oversee HR policies and proceduresLine manage HR & Office Manager. Support and enable the post holder to manage diverse workload including HR management and admin, IT support and training, enquiries management, facilities management, equipment & supplies, programmes admin support, and payroll support. FINANCEDevelop and lead on financial strategy, ensuring a sound and sustainable financial future for FM in line with FM strategy and to work closely with Senior Management to ensure delivery in line with all financial targets.To ensure, in close co-operation with the Chief Executive and The Board, that an appropriate financial policy framework is in place to guide the charity’s financial decision making. In particular reviewing and maintaining appropriate policies for reserves, core cost recovery, and other areas of financial impact.To be responsible for FM’s financial systems, overseeing the Finance Manager to maintain effective financial controls, finance & payroll systems and processing, and monitor and manage budgets, cash-flow forecasts, production of financial management reports and of the annual financial statements and completion of annual audit, in line with statutory and other legal requirements (eg SORP).Line manage Finance Manager and act as the main contact for Finance Sub-Committee and in particular the Treasurer.OTHERLead on Safeguarding – as Designated Safeguarding Lead, manage safeguarding and work with Deputy Safeguarding Leads to ensure implementation of the Safeguarding Policy and Procedure. Work with the CEO to develop and implement effective business planning process.Oversee and ensure ICT/digital management and development, including GDPR compliance.Work with Heads of Programmes to develop and implement operational aspects of programme delivery as required.STANDARD CLAUSESTo carry out other related duties as may from time to time be required to fulfil the mission of FM.To act at all times in the interests of FM. PERSON SPECIFICATIONWe require the post holder to be able to demonstrate that they meet the person specification to a high level. It is important to us that we recruit someone with the right combination of skills, experience and attributes and we are open to hearing from you why and how you think you are the right person for this position.EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONSExperience of HR leadership and management, and an understanding of how to ensure practices and policies are appropriate and promote a dynamic culture with highly engaged teams.Experience of senior financial management, running a small finance department, preparing month end accounts, budget setting and forecasting, end of year accounts and external liaison with auditors.Good understanding of the voluntary sector in relation to financial procedures and the management of income streams, and SORP accounting guidelines.Proven leadership and ability in the areas of financial planning and related organisational development.Experience of building, motivating and inspiring staff and holding them to account through performance management.Experience of initiating and driving through change.Experience of translating strategic aims into practical plans, identifying and managing risk.Experience of ICT management.KNOWLEDGEKnowledge of UK employment legislation and a good understanding of compliance and governance requirements of UK charities.Strong technical accounting and knowledge of relevant taxation (eg. VAT for charities) and legislation. Knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office, to the level where you can develop templates, forms, documents, presentations.Knowledge of budgetary processes and fundraising practices.Knowledge of safeguarding policies/procedures.Knowledge and understanding of the Third Sector environment and context.PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES Commitment to the vision, mission and values of Future Men.Ability to work out of normal working hours occasionally if needed.SKILLS AND ABILITIESAbility to Identify strategic aims, anticipate future demands, opportunities and constraints.Ability to contribute effectively and constructively as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
