THE DISCIPLERS’ MODEL

THE DISCIPLERS’ MODEL

Presented by Gary Carter

THE LEFT FOUNDATION STONE: THE ________________

Every theory or interpretation must be ______________________ through the Word of God to see whether it passes the test of truth accountability.

HOW DOES THE BIBLE DEFINE ITSELF?

The Bible is divinely _______________________.

The Bible is _______________________.

The Bible is powerful in its ______________________.

The Bible was written for a ______________________.

The Bible reveals eternal ___________________.

HOW DO TEACHERS USE THE BIBLE?

“Let the Bible _______________!”

THE RIGHT FOUNDATION STONE: THE ______________ OF PEOPLE

THE LEFT PILLAR: HELPING PEOPLE ________________

Three Stages of Thinking

We have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding (Col 1:9 NIV).

_____________________:

• Knowledge commonly refers to facts that the learner commits to memory.

• Paul goes beyond the idea of head knowledge, gnosis. The word Paul uses here is epignosis.

_______________________:

• Understanding is the process of organizing knowledge into concepts and principles that can be used.

_______________________:

• Look at Jesus’ definition found in Matthew 7:24-26:

everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock…everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand (NIV).

• The clear distinction between “wise” and “foolish” in Jesus definition is the term put into _______________.

[pic]Wisdom is not related to schooling or position or diplomas. As we learn what the Bible says, understand what the Bible means, and then strive, labor, battle to live in its light, then the result is wisdom.

THE RIGHT PILLAR: HELPING PEOPLE ______________

The subjective focus, represented by the right pillar, addresses the emotional aspects of Christian growth and maturity.

Spiritual growth involves an ____________________ life that is balanced and controlled.

[pic]

Proper Christian teaching helps learners use their emotions appropriately as they “rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep” (Rom. 12:15).

Emotional ________________

Classrooms where masks can be removed and the real is discovered have qualities distinct from classrooms where learners play it safe and are silent. These qualities are class openness and a personal willingness to share.

Openness

Students learn more in a safe, caring ______________________ than they do in a cool and indifferent one. Masks cannot be removed unless there is an atmosphere of openness in the classroom.

THE CENTER PILLAR: HELPING PEOPLE _________________

Jesus condensed all the Law and the Prophets into two statements of relationship: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind,” and (the second is similarly important) “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” (Matt. 22:37, 39).

This is the central pillar of the disciplers’ model.

People with People with _________________ in the Middle

Masks on the Fringe.

It is sad to see people live on the fringes of the church. They come to church from time to time, but never plunge into the family of God.

[pic]Then some tragedy strikes; a death, an illness, a divorce. Now they search in vain for “the church” and for “God” and wonder why neither can be flipped on like their radio dial.

THE CAPSTONE: HELPING PEOPLE ____________

Paul’s Treatise on Growth:

Eph 4:11-16

11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

• These five kinds of leaders are given so that the body of Christ may be built up (v.12b).

• What is the nature of this maturity? Unity in our faith and an intimate relationship with the Lord (13a).

• How mature does the church have to be? Basically, Paul says, our task is done when everyone in the church is as mature as Jesus: attaining “unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” (13b).

• What is the result of this growing maturity? We will no longer be childish – fickle – or gullible – tricked by religious con artists (14).

Instead, we will know and understand the Truth (________ _____________), and we’ll speak it in a loving way (___________ _________________), and by doing so we will grow up into Christ (___________________) (15).

Further, Christ, the Head, draws us together into oneness, a koinonia, a network of relationships (_____________ ________________) as each part does its work (16).

THE CIRCLE: THE _______ ___________ AS DISCIPLER

The final element in the model is the circle, which represents the surrounding and indwelling Presence of the Holy Spirit of God.
