PROPHECIES OF JESUS

Cosmic Collision Course________________________________________________________________________Israel and the Forbidden ProphecyAncient Rabbis and Daniel's Seventy WeeksIn the 12th Century A.D., Rabbi Moses Ben Maimon (Maimonides), one of the most respected rabbis in history, and a man who rejected the messianic claims of Jesus of Nazareth, said regarding Daniel's seventy weeks prophecy: "Daniel has elucidated to us the knowledge of the end times. However, since they are secret, the wise (rabbis) have barred the calculation of the days of Messiah's coming so that the untutored populace will not be led astray when they see that the End Times have already come but there is no sign of the Messiah" (Emphasis added). Igeret Teiman, Chapter 3 p.24. Finally, Rabbi Moses Abraham Levi said regarding the time of Messiah's coming: "I have examined and searched all the Holy Scriptures and have not found the time for the coming of Messiah clearly fixed, except in the words of Gabriel to the prophet Daniel, which are written in the 9th chapter of the prophecy of Daniel" The Messiah of the Targums, Talmuds and Rabbinical Writers, 1971.THE SEVENTY WEEKS PROPHECY OF DANIEL 9:24-27Dan 9:24 "SEVENTY WEEKS ARE DETERMINED UPON YOUR PEOPLE" King James Bible."Seventy weeks of years are fixed for your people..." Moffat Bible Translation. "Seven times seventy years..." Good News Bible. "Seventy weeks of years are decreed concerning your people..." Revised Standard Version. A PERIOD OF 490 YEARS IS HERE APPORTIONED TO THE JEWISH PEOPLE.A Day in Symbolic Prophecy Represents a Year: Numbers 14:34; Ezekiel 4:6The Day-for-a-Year principle in symbolic prophecy has been understood by Biblescholars from the earliest centuries, and is testified to by the above translations. It is confirmed to be accurate by the dramatic fulfilment of the 70-week prophecy."To Finish Transgression, to Make an End of Sins, to Make Reconciliation for Iniquity" The Messiah would bring an end to the reign of sin (Rom 8:3). Here is predicted that sometime before the end of the seventy weeks, a full atonement, a putting away of sin, would be made. This was accomplished by Christ.Hebrews 9:26 Christ "put away" sin, or put an end to sin's power, by his sacrifice.Romans 5. 10,11 Reconciled to God by the sacrifice of Jesus the Messiah.(See also 2 Cor 5:18, Heb 2:17)"Bring in Everlasting Righteousness'' Righteousness means being in right relationship with the true God. The Hebrew writers of the New Testament declared that this was only achieved by faith in Jesus Christ the Messiah. (See Rom 3:22, Phil 3:9, etc..)"To Seal Up the Vision and Prophecy" "To ratify the prophetic vision" Moffat. The accuracy of the prophecy would be confirmed at the end of the time period when all the details of the vision were to be fulfilled."To anoint the Most Holy" The words used here describe the Hebrew sanctuary. Exodus 30:22-30 describe the work of anointing, or consecrating the sanctuary before its use. In Daniel, the anointing of the sanctuary does not refer to the Hebrew sanctuary, which was an "example and shadow of heavenly things" (Heb 8:5), a "figure for the time then present" (Heb 9:9), and was simply the "patterns of things in the heavens" (Heb 9-23). This anointing of a sanctuary refers to the great original, the heavenly sanctuary of which the earthly was just a type (Heb 8:2).Christ entered the heavenly sanctuary at his ascension (Heb 8:2), and became our High Priest who intercedes in our behalf (Heb 4: 14- 16). The anointing of the Most Holy therefore refers to the beginning of Christ’s priestly intercession.Dan 9:25 THE STARTING DATE. From the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Messiah would be a period of three weeks of years plus sixty two weeks of years. A total of 483 years until the Messiah. Ezra 7:7-28 The decree is recorded in full in verses 12-26. "The seventh year of Artaxerxes the king." Any history book records that this Persian king (Artaxerxes Longimanus) began his reign in 464 BC. The seventh year is therefore 457 BC. From 457 BC we count 483 years until the Messiah appears – the year 27 AD. In 27 AD the Messiah is to appear in history.Luke 11. 21-22 Jesus Christ was baptised in the river Jordan by John the Baptist. He was at this time "anointed" as the Messiah, and began his 3 1/2 year ministry. The year was AD 27. The 15th year of Tiberius was AD 27 according to Jewish reckoning.Luke 4:16-18; Acts 10:37,38 Christ was "anointed" by the Holy Spirit at his baptism.Mark 1: 15 After Christ was baptised he proclaimed "The time is fulfilled.'' Daniel’s prophecy predicting the year of the Messiah had been fulfilled.Dan 9:26 Messiah was to be cut off during the last week of years. Between 27 AD and 34 AD.Dan 9:2 In the midst of the week, or in 31 AD, the Messiah would die, bringing to end the ceremonial sacrifices that pointed to him as the true Lamb of God (John 1:29).Matthew 27-50,51 When Christ died on the cross the veil in the temple was ripped in two revealing that the Jewish sacrificial system was now obsolete. Christ the true Sacrifice had died bringing an end to the significance of the ceremonial system.Romans 5:6; John 7:28-30; 13:1 CHRIST DIED EXACTLY ON TIME.Acts 7:51 ; 8:4 At the end of the 490 years, in 34 AD the gospel was taken to the Gentiles. Paul became the Apostle to the Gentile (non-Jewish) world. The Jews probationary period of 490 years was over. No longer were they God's chosen nation.Galatians 3:29; Romans 2:28,29 Christians are today "spiritual" Jews, chosen by God to take the gospel to the world. The purpose of God for the Jewish nation came to an end in AD 34.PROPHECIES OF JESUS“We have found Him of whom Moses… and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazereth.” John 1:45ProphecyHIS BIRTH AND EARLY LIFEFulfilmentMicah 5:2To be born in BethlehemMatthew 2:1Isaiah 7:14Born of a virginMatthew 1:18-23Genesis 49:10Of the tribe of JudahHebrews 7:14Isaiah 11:1Of the family of DavidLuke 1:31-33Hosea 11:1Called out of EgyptMatthew 2:13-15Jeremiah 31:15Massacre of innocentsMatthew 2:16-18ProphecyHIS MISSION & OFFICEFulfilmentIsaiah 40:3His forerunnnerJohn 1:19-23Daniel 9:25His debut as the MessiahMark 1:15; Matthew 3:16Isaiah 9:1,2Ministry of GalileeMatthew 4:13-16Deuteronomy 18:18A mighty prophetActs 7:37,38Isaiah 53:4A healer of sicknessMatthew 8:16,17Genesis 22:18A blessing to all nationsGalatians 3:16; John 3:16Psalm 78:2Teaching in parablesMatthew 13:34,35Isaiah 53:6,10,11True sacrifice for sinJohn 1:29Jeremiah 23:6; 33:15,16The giver of righteousness2 Corinthians 5:21Daniel 9:25The MessiahJohn 1:41; 4:25,26Isaiah 6:9,10People reject His teachingsMatthew 13:14-16Isaiah 53:1; 8:14Rejected by His own peopleJohn 1:11Psalm 118:22,23Became the chief cornerstoneMatthew 21:42; 1 Peter 2:6-8ProphecyHIS PASSIONFulfilmentZechariah 9:9His triumphal entryMatthew 21:1-11; Luke 19:40Psalm 41:9Betrayal by one of His disciplesJohn 13:18,19,26Zechariah 11:12Betrayal for thirty pieces of silverMatthew 26:14-16Zechariah 11:13Purchase of potter’s fieldMatthew 27:3-10Psalm 35:11Accused by false witnessesMatthew 26:59-61Isaiah 53:7Silence under false accusationMatthew 27:12-14Isaiah 50:6; 53:5The insult, buffeting, smiting, Matthew 26:67; 27:26; spitting and scourgingLuke 22:64Zechariah 13:7Desertion by His disciplesMatthew 26:31,56ProphecyHIS CRUCIFIXIONFulfilmentExodus 12:6The hour of his death1 Corinthians 5:7; Matthew 27:46-50Psalm 22:16Piercing of His hands and feetLuke 23:33; John 20:24-27Zechariah 13:6Permanent scars in His handsJohn 20:24-28Psalm 22:18Disposition of His garmentsJohn 19:23,24Psalm 22:7,8Identical taunting words hurled at HimMatthew 27:41-43Psalm 109:25Shaking their heads at HimMatthew 27:39Psalm 22:1His dying cryMatthew 27:46Isaiah 53:12Praying for His persecutorsLuke 23:34Isaiah 53:12His death with criminalsMark 15:27,28Psalm 69:21Offering vinegar to drinkJohn 19:28-30Psalm 31:5Committing Himself to GodLuke 23:46Psalm 22:14His death by a broken heartJohn 19:34Psalm 34:20; Exodus 12:46No bones brokenJohn 19:36Zechariah 12;10The piercing of His sideJohn 19:34-37Isaiah 53:4-6, 12; Daniel 9:26His substitutionary deathRomans 5:8Isaiah 53:9His grave with the richJohn 19:38-41Psalm 16:10His resurrectionActs 2:25-32Hosea 6:2Raised the third dayMark 8:31Psalm 24:7-10His ascension1 Peter 3:22640715212090Zechariah 6:13To serve as our priestHebrews 8:1,2 ................
