Microchip Technology Donates 20,000 Square Feet at Tempe Facility

to PROJECT C.U.R.E.®

Medical Equipment & Supply Donation Organization to Utilize Space as Regional Distribution Center for Next Two Years

CHANDLER, Ariz., Oct. 9, 2006 [NASDAQ: MCHP] — Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, today announced it has donated 20,000 square feet of interior warehouse space at its Tempe facility to PROJECT C.U.R.E.®, the world’s largest provider of donated medical supplies and equipment to developing countries. The non-profit organization will utilize the space as its regional distribution center for the next two years, where volunteers will load and ship “Medical Clinics In-a-Box” to desperately ill and impoverished people in over 100 countries around the world.

Denver, CO-based PROJECT C.U.R.E. has delivered medical supplies and equipment donated by manufacturers, wholesalers, hospitals and clinics to developing countries since 1987. The organization’s 7,500 volunteers, known as the “C.U.R.E. CORPS,” collect, sort and load the supplies into overseas cargo containers, which are then shipped to recipient countries. At 40-feet long, 8-feet wide and 8-feet tall, these “Medical Clinics In-a-Box” are the size of semi-truck trailers and can hold up to $800,000-worth of medical supplies and equipment. Last year, PROJECT C.U.R.E. shipped 77 containers filled with supplies ranging from sutures, syringes and suction tubes, to ultrasound machines and incubators.

Microchip’s connection with PROJECT C.U.R.E. began at a meeting at an East Valley church, when PROJECT C.U.R.E. Arizona Executive Director Jason Corley announced the organization’s need for packing and shipping space. Microchip Director of Site Services Jeff Thomas was in the audience and approached Corley regarding the available space. When Thomas later presented the opportunity to Microchip’s President and CEO, he agreed immediately.

“At Microchip, we realize that we have a responsibility to give back to the community whenever possible,” said Microchip’s president and CEO, Steve Sanghi. “Giving back to the community is not only a corporate value at Microchip –– it is a humanitarian one. We are pleased to do our part to help PROJECT C.U.R.E. bring much-needed medical attention to people in less-fortunate parts of the world.”

Jason Corley, Executive Director for PROJECT C.U.R.E. Arizona, said of Microchip’s donation, “Because of this generous provision, PROJECT C.U.R.E. can facilitate the delivery of quality medical care to even more people all over the world. We are grateful to Microchip Technology for their monumental contribution toward this effort. It is a dream come true for PROJECT C.U.R.E. in Arizona.”

In addition to donating supplies, Project C.U.R.E. takes volunteer medical professionals to the poorest regions of developing nations for trips of 10 days to 2 weeks. At these C.U.R.E. CLINICS, the volunteer doctors and nurses provide free medical services, often to people who have never seen a physician before.
