WE HAVE SO MUCH TO BE THANKFUL FOR - Razor Planet
Vision: Last year 10,000 children in Massachusetts found themselves removed from their familiar surroundings and in the custody of the Department of Children and Families (DCF) because of abuse or neglect. Often these children leave their homes with only the clothes on their backs. It is the hope of Bethany Christian Services and a group of local churches to help make this difficult time a little easier by giving a little love in an “You are Special” bag.
How to Participate: This year in Kid’s Zone, we will be collecting items listed on the attached sheet and assembling bags to give to our local DCF office in Whitinsville. You can help deliver some relief and love to these children by donating items and/or assembling bags.
SET THE STAGE
Parents, set aside an evening or weekend afternoon to discuss the project and spend time shopping with your little one. Sit down with your kids in advance and decide how many items, for boys or girls, which age group. (Suggested: one “bag” per child, matching the gender and age of that child.)
THE 2-FOR-2 RACE
Set a timer for two minutes and race through the house to grab two of your favorite things. Make sure they don’t require feeding or a leash! Proceed to family dinner.
CHOW & CHAT
Take your favorite things to the dinner table. Over dinner, use them as an inspiration for discussion questions. Make sure younger kids understand that they are not putting their own toys in the boxes.)
FIRE DRILL
Head to the store. Every time the car stops, someone must yell out things that he/she is thankful for until the car is moving again. If you get stuck, you can tag someone else. No repeats!
SHOP ‘TIL YOU DROP
Have your child pick out some of the items listed on the “I am Special” packing list. Slow it down and take your time. Don’t feel like you have to race, and let them go at their own pace.
PRAY & ASSEMBLE!
Follow the instructions and bring your items back to New England Chapel, November 2nd or November 9th. Then take time as a family to pray for the child or children who will receive your gifts. Sign up to help assemble the “I Am Special” bags as a family on November 9th. Space is limited to 10 families. Sign up is required. The sign-up sheet is at the Kids Zone Host Desk. Or email Nicole Harter at nicole.guad@.
