WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE BIG PAYBACK? May 3 was the day for The Big Payback, an organized online event for donations for Middle Tennessee non-profit organizations. They had a tremendous response – in fact, their website couldn't handle the response! By 9am (when their system began to crash) they had already received 10,828 gifts, totaling over $1,250,000. In an email The Big Payback sent to the nonprofit organizations, they said, “We threw a party and everybody came!”

Due to their internet difficulties, The Big Payback has encouraged the nonprofit organizations to take donations through our own websites. Your financial gifts and donations are always appreciated, not just for this event, but at any time. You can give through our website link, #/give-online. You can make a one-time gift or set up a monthly recurring donation. Of course, we still take gifts of checks and cash. (But please don't send cash through the mail!) Our address is: 523 Church Street, Nashville, TN 37219.

Thank you for your generosity and faithfulness to God's work at McKendree Church! Together we are building bridges of hope through the love of Jesus Christ!

GENERAL CONFERENCE General Conference will be held May 10-20, in Seattle, Washington. This is the top policy-making body of The United Methodist Church, and meets once every four years. The Conference can revise church law, as well as adopt resolutions on current moral, social and public policy and economic issues. It also approves plans and budgets for church-wide programs. Pastor Stephen Handy is a delegate to General Conference. Please keep him and all the delegates in prayer as they meet and make church decisions.

CANNED FOOD NEEDED FOR 5&2 MEAL McKendree’s Tuesday Meal 5&2 Ministry is in need of specific canned food items to help with feeding our displaced and homeless guests. We usually serve 75 to 100 guests, but that number has greatly increased. We are in need of the following canned food donations: (All cans should be 15 ounces or larger.)

sweet peas corn baked beans

green beans greens (turnip greens, collards, etc.)

We greatly appreciate your help in this ministry to the displaced and homeless in the downtown community.

MEN’S CLOTHING NEEDED We are in great need of men’s clothing, especially in large sizes! Clothing doesn’t have to be new, just in good condition. Clothing donations can be brought to the church on Sundays or to the church office during the week. Thanks so much for your generosity!

HELP WITH UMCOR PROJECT For May, our United Methodist Women are collecting items for UMCOR hygiene kits. We need:

-- adhesive bandages (common household band aids)

-- bath size soap in original packaging (no Ivory or Jergens brand)

UMCOR kits provide basic necessities to people who have been forced to leave their homes because of human conflict or natural disaster. Donation items may be put in the box on the table behind the sanctuary. Thank you, we appreciate your help!
