Ankle Taping: Position athlete’s foot as shown.

Spray on tape adhesive.

Apply heel and lace pads.

Apply pre-wrap. Start at mid-foot and move up leg until calf muscle starts to widen out.

Finished pre-wrap.

Apply first anchor strip half on pre-wrap, half on skin. Pull tape towards the midline of the body.

Apply second anchor strip half on pre-wrap, half on previous strip. Pull towards midline of the body.

Apply third anchor strip at mid-foot. Pull tape towards the midline of the body.

Apply first stirrup strip. Start on medial side and pull down under heel then back up. Stay behind medial malleolus.

Apply horseshoe strip over medial malleolus, pulling towards the midline of the body.

Apply second stirrup strip as before, but half way on previous strip so you go over the medial malleolus.

Apply second horseshoe strip half way on previous strip, pulling towards the midline of the body.

Apply third stirrup strip as before, but half way on previous strip so you go in front of the medial malleolus.

Apply third horseshoe strip half way on previous strip, pulling towards the midline of the body.

Apply fourth horseshoe strip half way on previous strip, pulling towards the midline of the body.

Apply fifth horseshoe strip half way on previous strip, pulling towards the midline of the body.

Medial heel lock: Start on lateral side angling down and pull towards the midline of the body.

Continue pulling on a downward angle, back behind the heel.

Continue behind the heel and under foot back towards the top.

Come back up on the medial side pulling out to the lateral side.

End the tape where you started the heel lock.

Lateral heel lock: Start on medial side angling down and pull away from the midline of the body.

Continue pulling on a downward angle, back behind the heel.

Continue behind the heel and under foot back towards the top.

Come back up on the lateral side pulling out to the medial side.

End the tape where you started the heel lock. Repeat both heel locks again in same order.

Figure Eight’s: Start mid-foot angled down into arch.

Continue up on the lateral side of the foot towards the top of the foot.

Pull straight back towards the Achilles’ tendon and continue back around leg.

Pull back towards the front and you should make an “X” in front of the foot. Repeat the steps for a second Figure Eight.

Second Figure Eight applied. Check for any holes in tape job other than by heel.

Apply first coverstrip starting below the medial malleolus pulling back towards the Achilles’ tendon.

Apply second coverstrip as before, but half way on previous strip. Pull towards the midline of the body.

Apply third coverstrip as before, but half way on previous strip. Pull towards the midline of the body.

Apply fourth coverstrip as before, but half way on previous strip. Pull towards the midline of the body.

Apply fifth coverstrip as before, but half way on previous strip. Pull towards the midline of the body.

Complex Arch Taping: Position athlete’s foot as shown.

Spray on tape adhesive.

Apply pre-wrap. Start at ball of foot near toes and work up towards leg. Stop where foot becomes leg.

Apply anchor strip. Pull from inside towards outside. Stay over ball of foot. Use

1-½ inch tape.

Using 1 inch tape start at big toe and move down behind the heel and then back to the big toe.

Using 1 inch tape start at 5th toe and move down behind the heel and then back to the 5th toe.

Using 1 inch tape start at 2nd toe and move down behind the heel and then back to the 2nd toe.

Using 1 inch tape start at 4th toe and move down behind the heel and then back to the 4th toe.

Using 1 inch tape start at 3rd toe and move down behind the heel and then back to the 3rd toe.

Using 1 inch tape start at 5th toe and move down behind the heel and then across to the big toe.

Apply 1st coverstrip starting near toes like 1st anchor strip.

Apply 2nd coverstrip half way on previous coverstrip.

Apply 3rd coverstrip half way on previous coverstrip.

Apply 4th coverstrip half way on previous coverstrip. Can apply more coverstrips if needed.

Simple Arch Taping: Position athlete’s foot as shown.

Apply pre-wrap, starting at toes stopping where foot becomes leg.

Apply 1st strip at the base of the toes over the ball of the foot.

Apply 2nd strip as the first, but half way on the previous strip.

Apply 3rd strip as the previous strip, but half way on the previous strip.

Apply 4th strip as the previous, but half way on the previous strip.

Apply 5th strip as the previous, but half way on the previous strip working back towards the toes.

Apply 6th strip as the previous, but half way on the previous strip working back towards the toes.

Apply 7th strip as the previous, but half way on the previous strip working back towards the toes.

Apply 8th strip as the previous, but half way on the previous strip working back towards the toes.

Turf Toe Taping: Position athlete’s foot as shown.

Apply spray adhesive.

Apply pre-wrap, starting at toes stopping where foot becomes leg.

Apply 1st strip at the base of the toes over the ball of the foot. Use 1 ½” tape.

Apply 2nd strip as the first, but half way on the previous strip.

Apply 3rd strip as the previous strip, but half way on the previous strip.

Apply 4th strip as the previous, but half way on the previous strip.

Apply 1st strip around big toe in direction to prevent painful movement. Use 1” tape.

Apply 2nd strip around big toe in direction to prevent painful movement. Use 1” tape.

Apply 1st coverstrip close to the toes using 1 ½” tape.

Apply 2nd coverstrip halfway on the previous strip.

Apply 3rd coverstrip halfway on the previous strip.

Apply 4th coverstrip halfway on previous strip (if necessary).

Make 6th “X” as before, but halfway on previous strips. Continue down until front is covered.

Make 5th “X” as before, but halfway on previous strips.

Make 4th “X” as before, but halfway on previous strips.

Make 3rd “X” as before, but halfway on previous strips.

Make a 2nd “X” as before, but halfway on previous strips.

Finish 1st “X” by starting medially and pulling laterally angling down.

Begin “X-pattern” across front of lower leg by starting laterally and pulling medially angling down.

Apply lateral anchor strip vertically as shown.

Apply medial anchor strip vertically as shown.

Apply 2nd anchor strip just below the knee. Pull tape in towards midline.

Apply 1st anchor strip just above ankle and pull tape in towards the midline. Use 1 ½” tape.

Apply pre-wrap from just above ankle to just below knee.

Shin Splint Taping: Position athlete’s leg as shown. Knee bent, pulling toes up. Apply spray.

Finish as shown with “X-pattern” covering entire front of the athlete’s leg.

Apply 1st coverstrip at the bottom, just above the ankle. Pull in towards the midline.

Apply 2nd coverstrip at the top, just below the knee. Pull in towards the midline.

Patellar Tendon Taping: Position athlete as shown. Use taping block under the heel.

Apply adhesive spray around knee.

Locate inferior border of the patella.

Locate tibial tuberosity. Apply pre-wrap and tape between these two points.

Apply pre-wrap.

Apply tape towards midline. Use 1 ½” tape.

Twist tape several times then pull across towards midline.

Repeat as above and pull another strip across towards the midline.

Pull one more strip across the front, again towards the midline.

End on lateral (outside) side of the knee.

Achilles Tendon Taping: Position athlete and apply adhesive spray.

Apply heel and lace pads.

Apply Pre-wrap.

Apply 1st anchor strip.

Apply 2nd anchor strip. Remember to pull medially (to the inside).

Apply 3rd anchor strip at bottom near toes.

Measure strips for fan from bottom anchor to top anchors. Foot should be plantar flexed.

1st measured strip for the fan.

2nd measured strip for the fan.

3rd measured strip for the fan.

4th measured strip for the fan.

5th measured strip for the fan.

Apply fan to bottom anchor 1st. Have the athlete point their toes.

Secure fan to bottom anchor with a coverstrip. Keep foot plantar flexed. May take more than 1 strip.

Secure fan to top anchor strips. Foot still plantar flexed. May take more than 1 strip.

Apply a stirrup strip. We will cover this with an ankle taping.

Apply coverstrip above medial malleolus.

Apply 2nd stirrup strip.

Apply 2nd coverstrip halfway above last strip.

Apply 3rd stirrup strip.

Apply 3rd coverstrip halfway up from previous strip.

Apply 4th coverstrip halfway up from the previous strip.

Apply 5th coverstrip halfway up from the previous strip.

Medial heel lock: Start on lateral side angling down and pull towards the midline of the body.

Continue pulling on a downward angle, back behind the heel.

Continue behind the heel and under foot back towards the top.

Come back up on the medial side pulling out to the lateral side.

End the tape where you started the heel lock.

Lateral heel lock: Start on medial side angling down and pull away from the midline of the body.

Continue pulling on a downward angle, back behind the heel.

Continue behind the heel and under foot back towards the top.

Come back up on the lateral side pulling out to the medial side.

End the tape where you started the heel lock. Repeat both heel locks again in same order.

Figure Eight’s: Start mid-foot angled down into arch.

Continue up on the lateral side of the foot towards the top of the foot.

Pull straight back towards the Achilles’ tendon and continue back around leg.

Pull back towards the front and you should make an “X” in front of the foot. Repeat the steps for a second Figure Eight.

Second Figure Eight applied. Check for any holes in tape job other than by heel.

Apply first coverstrip starting below the medial malleolus pulling back towards the Achilles’ tendon.

Apply second coverstrip as before, but half way on previous strip. Pull towards the midline of the body.

Apply third coverstrip as before, but half way on previous strip. Pull towards the midline of the body.

Apply fourth coverstrip as before, but half way on previous strip. Pull towards the midline of the body.

Apply fifth coverstrip as before, but half way on previous strip. Pull towards the midline of the body.

1st “X” made on the front of the thigh.

Starting the 2nd “X” on the front of the thigh.

Finished 2nd “X” on the front of the thigh.

Hip Flexor Wrap: Use a 4” or 6” double length wrap. Position the athlete with block under heel. Anchor wrap above the knee.

Make an “X” with the wrap in the front of the thigh. Pull down 1st time around and up 2nd time around. Repeat 2-3 times until leg joins body.

Pull up and around waist. Will repeat this step 2-3 times depending on how much wrap is available.

Starting 2nd wrap around the waist.

After 2nd or 3rd wrap around the waist and thigh, continue back down the thigh.

The wrap can be pulled straight across the thigh, still towards the medial side.

Finish wrap near where you started.

Cover end of wrap with 3-4 strips of tape. Pull medially with the tape to secure the end of the wrap. The entire end of the wrap should be covered.

Quadriceps Wrap: Use 6” single length wrap. Position the athlete with block under heel. Anchor wrap above the knee.

Make an “X” with the wrap in the front of the thigh. Pull down 1st time around and up 2nd time around. Repeat until out of wrap.

1st “X” made on the front of the thigh.

Start of the 2nd “X.”

2nd “X” made on the front of the thigh.

Starting 3rd “X.”

3rd “X” made on the front of the thigh.

Secure end of the wrap with tape. Pull medially.

Cover the end of the wrap completely with tape to make it secure.

Apply adhesive spray to the area to be taped.

Apply pre-wrap.

Apply 1st strip of tape close to hand. Pull tape towards thumb-side.

Apply 2nd strip halfway on previous strip.

Apply 3rd strip halfway on the previous strip.

Apply 4th strip halfway on the previous strip.

Apply 5th strip on top of the previous strip. Start moving back towards the hand with the next 3 strips.

Apply 6th strip halfway on the previous strip.

Apply 7th strip halfway on the previous strip.

Apply 8th strip halfway on the previous strip.

Measure 1st strip for the fan.

1st measured strip for fan.

2nd measured strip for the fan.

3rd measured strip for the fan.

Apply fan to wrist end 1st.

Secure fan at the wrist end.

Securing fan to wrist may take 2-3 strips.

Secure other end of fan to the palm strip. Make sure wrist is flexed slightly before securing.

End last palm strip on the backside of the hand to prevent peeling during competition.

Apply adhesive spray to the area to be taped.

Apply pre-wrap.

Apply 1st strip of tape close to hand. Pull tape towards thumb-side.

Apply 2nd strip halfway on previous strip.

Apply 3rd strip halfway on the previous strip.

Apply 4th strip halfway on the previous strip.

Apply 5th strip on top of the previous strip. Start moving back towards the hand with the next 3 strips.

Apply 6th strip halfway on the previous strip.

Apply 7th strip halfway on the previous strip.

Apply 8th strip halfway on the previous strip.

Apply on strip through the hand. Start back by knuckles and pinch tape near thumb to prevent tearing of skin.

Finished strip through the hand.

Thumb Taping: Position athlete as shown. It is very important that they keep fingers spread throughout taping.

Start 1st thumb strip at the base of the thumb.

Apply 2nd thumb strip halfway on the previous strip.

Apply 3rd thumb strip halfway on the previous strip. Stop when you reach the DIP joint of the thumb. May take a 4th strip.

Apply 1st closure strip at the base of the thumb from the palm to the back of the hand.

Apply 2nd closure strip at the base of the thumb from the palm to the back of the hand.

Apply 3rd closure strip at the base of the thumb from the palm to the back of the hand.

Apply 4th closure strip at the base of the thumb from the palm to the back of the hand. Continue these until you reach the DIP joint.

Apply a closure strip from back of knuckles through palm.

“X-style” Finger Taping: Use ½” tape. Start near PIP joint of the effected finger and go diagonally across MIP joint on one side.

Continue strip around DIP joint.

Bring strip back along original side and make an “X” over the MIP joint.

Secure the strip at the PIP joint again by going around one full time with the tape.

Repeat steps on the other side of the finger. Start near PIP joint diagonally across MIP joint.

Continue strip around DIP joint.

Bring strip back along original side and make an “X” over the MIP joint. The knuckle on top should not have tape on it.

Secure the strip at the PIP joint again by going around one full time with the tape.

Finished by securing at PIP joint. Knuckle should be uncovered as pictured.

Buddy Taping: Use ½” tape. Start with tape between PIP and MIP joints. Secure to one finger first.

After securing the tape to one finger, continue around both fingers at least two times.

Finished first strip.

Start second strip between MIP and DIP joints. Again secure to one finger first.

After securing tape to one finger, continue around both fingers at least two times.

Buddy taping done. Make sure to check fingertips for capillary refill to make sure tape is not too tight. Can be used with X-style taping.

Finished taping should prevent full extension at the elbow.

Pull up with fan so elbow is slightly flexed and then apply upper portion of the fan to the bicep anchors. Use 3 coverstrips to secure end of fan. Flex bicep while applying coverstrips.

Secure forearm portion of fan with 3 coverstrips. The athlete should again make a fist while coverstrips are being applied.

Create a fan as you would for the complex wrist taping, but use 5 strips. Measure from forearm anchors to bicep anchors. Apply fan to the forearm 1st.

Apply 3rd anchor strip near bicep. Athlete should still be flexing bicep to prevent the tape from getting too tight.

Apply 2nd anchor strip near bicep. Have athlete continue to flex bicep.

Apply 1st anchor strip near bicep. Again pull medially. Athlete should flex bicep to prevent tape from getting to tight.

Apply 3rd anchor strip as before, but halfway on the previous strip. Athlete should still be making a fist for this strip.

Apply a 2nd anchor strip as before, but halfway on the previous strip. Have the athlete continue making a fist.

Start with an anchor strip on the forearm. Pull medially. When applying the strip, the athlete should make a fist to contract their muscles.

Elbow Hyperextension Taping: Position the athlete, spray, and pre-wrap area from mid-forearm to mid-bicep.
