(11) 993-25-64-80Carnival is the most famous Brazilian holiday. During this time, Brazil attracts 70% of its tourists. Variations in Carnival celebrations are observed throughout the multitude of Brazilian cities. The southeastern cities of Brazil have massive parades that take place in large sambadromes. Samba schools parade to the sound of samba, whose theme is presented in costumes and floats. The largest Carnival celebration in Brazil and the world occurs in Rio de Janeiro, where about two million people celebrate. In the northeast, people dance frevo and axé on the streets, following electric trios. The largest street carnival happens in Recife, with the allegorical “Galo da Madrugada” (Dawn Rooster), which brings together more than two million people. The city of Salvador also holds a large Carnival celebration.Carnival is an important celebration in Anglican and Catholic European nations. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, the holiday is on Shrove Tuesday. It has its popular celebratory aspects. Pancakes are a traditional food consumed. But Europe's biggest street festival is the Notting Hill Carnival in West London. It is an annual event that takes place each August over three days. The Carnival has attracted around one million people in the past years, making it one of the largest street festivals in the world. It is led by members of the West Indian community. Despite its name, it is not part of the global Carnival season preceding Lent.Carnival has always been a part of the British culture. In the 18th century, there was juggling and masquerade; people dressed up and dramatized their grievances against the authorities. However, there was also drinking, pick pocketing and whoring. At that time, Carnival was banned for moral reasons. The roots of the Notting Hill Carnival in the mid-1960s came from two separate but connected strands: a Caribbean Carnival, held in January 1959 as a response to the depressing state of race relations at the time; and the UK's first widespread racial attacks that occurred the previous year. Notting Hill Carnival became a major festival in 1975 when it was organized by a young teacher called Leslie Palmer. It was also popularized by live radio broadcasts by Alex Pascall on his daily Black Londoners program for BBC Radio London. Since Notting Hill Carnival debuted in 1964, the event has grown and morphed, with its spectacle of floats, dense crowds and a vibrant celebration of music, movement and masquerade, together with Caribbean food stalls serving up jerk chicken and fried plantain. In recent years, the event has been much freer from serious trouble and is generally viewed very positively by the authorities as a dynamic celebration of London's multi-cultural diversity, though dominated by the Caribbean culture. However, there has been controversy over the public safety aspects of holding such a well-attended event, which attracts ever more revelers, on the narrow streets in a small area of London.Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday is an annual Carnival celebration in the Southeast of the United States, beginning on Epiphany or King's Day (January 6th) and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. It is a season of parades, balls and king cake parties. It reflects the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of Lent. While not observed nationally throughout the United States, a number of traditionally ethnic French cities and regions in the country have notable Carnival celebrations. Mardi Gras arrived in North America as a French Catholic tradition with the Le Moyne brothers in the late 17th century, when King Louis XIV sent the pair to defend France's claim on the territory of Louisiane, which included what are now the U.S. states of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. The first record of the holiday being celebrated in Louisiana was at the mouth of the Mississippi River on March 3rd 1699. The first Mardi Gras celebration started in Mobile in 1703 and the first Mardi Gras parade held in New Orleans was in 1837.Popular practices on Mardi Gras include wearing masks and costumes, wearing bead necklaces, dancing and overturning social conventions with debauchery. The festival also has large parades with decorated floats.Though it is a growing trend for uninhibited, mostly younger women to show their breasts, this practice mostly only takes place in the French Quarter. Exposing body parts in an effort to catch more beads can be grounds for a ticket or an arrest. ................
