Summer Assignment 2019-2020 4371975161925?Welcome to APES!? The upcoming school year will be an exciting and eye opening experience for you as you discover the world of environmental science. Over the summer, I would like you to complete these simple tasks. More importantly, I want you to enjoy your summer and explore our environment. Getting outside is one of the best ways to start appreciating the world around you! 1. JOIN THE GOOGLE CLASSROOM: pqmzrf52. Tell me about yourself: the “APES- Getting to Know You” survey. This survey must be completed by July 15th.3. Digital Nature Journal (Google Slides Edition)- We will be working on a Nature Journal throughout the year. It will be online but feel free to do it on paper and take pictures! It is always a great idea to handwrite, draw, color, or paint, as it is relaxing. (And we all need that these days!) Since you will be taking photos the paper can be anything...the back of old school work, scrap paper, receipts….feel free to recycle here or use a notebook that never got filled! Here is your first entry to be completed in Google Classroom by August 31st: Connecting with Nature: Spend at least 30 minutes outside somewhere quietly watching and observing nature with few distractions (no phones, texts, music or other people--just you being ‘one’ with nature It doesn’t matter where you go; it just needs to be outside somewhere...could be hiking, kayaking, sitting outside on your deck, sitting under a tree in a park, gazing at the stars in your backyard, birdwatching...whatever you choose. Traveling somewhere? Great! Do this activity there. The point is to get out in nature wherever you are this summer and reflect on our beautiful Earth. Take a picture or make a sketch of where you are and put it in your journal with your reflection. Write about where you were, what you did, how you felt being where you were, and what you thought about the environment around you. Also, if you are following any environmental issues in the news right now, how do you feel about them in connection to your nature spot? 4. PERSONAL REFLECTION- You will periodically write personal reflections throughout the year that don’t involve nature directly. These are about bigger problems. There are no minimum or maximum number of paragraphs; this writing is meant to be based on personal reflections--meaning what you feel personally about an environmental topic--so you decide the length. Due in Google Classroom by August 31st The Year Ahead: This reflection should be done the week before school starts. Reflect on your summer (What you did, what you learned, what you thought about) and your year ahead in general (how you're feeling about it, questions, or concerns you have, what you are looking forward to) and write about it. Reflect on the field of Environmental Science and write at least one paragraph about what you already know about the subject, what you think about the current condition of the environment, what you think are the three biggest problems facing society today (environmentally speaking), and why. Find a few pictures online of these problems out in our world. (If you have your own photos, share them.) ................
