Do you think nature or nurture has the strongest influence ...

1.Do you think nature or nurture has the strongest influence on development? Support your answer. How would your thinking affect your approach to learning? How might you combine these theories to enhance learning in classroom? All things being equal, nurture and nurture both have strong influences on development and should not be considered independently as determining factors when considering a child’s ability to develop. However, it is important to add the caveat, that when all things are not equal, such as when a child has a severe learning disability perhaps paired with a serious physical disability, or conversely, the resources that might be gained from being Bill Gates’ child, the importance of nature or nurture may vary greatly, relatively speaking. In general, though, one’s internal proclivities, aptitudes and potential exist in the absence of everything else, though they can be influenced. The strong ability of society, both individually and collectively, to influence but not eliminate these elements demonstrates the interrelationship of nature and nurture and that they can not be easily or arbitrarily separated. My thinking requires me to adjust my teaching style to reflect both the unique development needs of each child with an objective assessment of their zone of proximal development in relation to what is largely a fixed curriculum. So, for instance, I would likely conduct regular assessments, primarily formative, in order to break the children into learning groups based on their levels of proficiency in different subjects. However, I would not only focus on current skill level but on doing everything I could to improve the quality of the ‘nurture’ in the children’s lives to enhance their ‘nature’ and encourage maximum learning and achievement. So, I would, for instance, combine my focus on learning teams with a focus on the children’s preexisting traits and interests. I would also address the differences in developmental timelines and brain structures between genders, for example, by working to provide learning experiences that would benefit both equally.2.What is the effect of substance abuse on prenatal development? What are the implications for a child’s future development?I will post this answer within the next hour.Reading: ................
