SIZE AND BORDER: Border encloses the poster, measures between

1-1½ inches, and includes shapes, symbols, or images that relate to the

amendment. Teacher-provided poster board is used.

NUMBER AND TEXT: Poster includes the number and full text of the amendment.

PARAPHRASED TEXT: In your own words, you have explained what the amendment

means. (If you are concentrating on just a portion of the amendment, just

paraphrase that portion.) This commentary is a minimum of 150 words.

IMAGE: On a paper 8 ½ by 11, horizontal format, draw an image that portrays the

amendment. The scale of your drawing is large and bold enough to be seen

from a distance. Downloaded graphics or magazine pictures must be

significantly manipulated to make them your own creation. This image

helps deepen the reader’s understanding of the amendment by graphically

communicating how the amendment relates to one’s life. There is NO

WASTED WHITE SPACE.

QUOTE: Poster includes a quote that relates to the amendment. Near the quote,

include your commentary or analysis on what was said and how it

connects to your amendment. The source of the quote should be credited.

The analysis should be a minimum of 250-300 words.

QUESTION: Poster includes an answer (minimum 250 words) to one of the

following questions:

• Why is this an important right today? (Or unimportant?)

• What controversies surround this amendment?

• What is a famous Supreme Court case involving this amendment?

FREE CHOICE: Poster includes information or commentary about the amendment

that the researcher found interesting. (If this ends up being a chart or some-

thing credited to someone else, the writer should add an original comment or

explanation.)

3-D ELEMENT: Poster includes a three-dimensional element that relates to the

amendment. The 3-D element not only grabs the viewer’s attention, but

helps demonstrate another level of the amendment’s meaning.

RESEARCH: The poster clearly reveals that the student conducted research.

All notes have been turned in. Digital notes include commentary column. Unaltered

notes from Internet will not be considered. Bibliography of no fewer than three sources

has been written on the back of the poster.

CORRECTNESS: All written parts follow the conventions of standard written English.

All work has been carefully proofread.

PRESENTATION: The poster looks neat and clearly shows the student put a lot of

effort into the project.
