* Exams are worth 90 points of the course grade. The exam weights shown above reflect the amount each exam contributes towards those 90 points. 10 additional points are earned from a TBL series in block III. TBLs are weighted equal to a lecture and will be tested in Block III exam.

Absence from any exam without prior written excuse results in a score of 0 on that exam. Only students whose absences have been approved by the Associate Dean for Student Affairs will be allowed to take a make-up exam.

Answer key will be posted on a display case opposite your mailboxes after ALL students have completed the exam. Grades will be assigned according to the Tulane School of Medicine's grading system as pass/fail: Pass is an average of 70 or greater; Conditional Pass is an average 65-69; Failure is an average below 65. The Associate Dean for Student Affairs will be notified of students who condition or fail the course.

Challenges to exam questions are not accepted. Before exam grades are returned, results are carefully screened by statistical item analyses. Any question that is answered incorrectly by 65% or more of the class will not be scored. All students receive credit if a question is removed from an exam. However, we welcome constructive comments on exam questions. Please send these comments via email to your Owl Club Reps, to be forwarded to the Course Director.

Your enrollment in this course subjects you to the Honor Code of the Tulane University School of Medicine. Failure to abide by the Code will result in charges of academic dishonesty. Questions regarding the Code or any of its provisions should be directed to the Associate Dean's Office or to the course director. There is an on-line version of this material on the Office of Student Affairs web page.

Practice Exams and Extra Credit: Students are given the opportunity to earn a total of 5 points EC by writing exam questions and passing (70%) on-line practice exams prior to each block exam. The practice exams are comprised of the questions you submitted for EC.

Each student is assigned two lectures in the course (look at file “Student Lecture Assignments for Practice Exam Qs” in the Student Information tab on the course website). For each assigned lecture, the student creates one exam question in multiple choice format (5 possible answers please). The emailed question must indicate the correct answer, and a brief explanation why the correct answer is correct and distracters are wrong. Failure to provide the explanations voids the ability to receive extra credit. For each submitted exam question, the student receives 1 point added to their final course average. With two assigned lectures, each student can earn two points extra credit. To receive the two points, questions must be emailed to the course director within TWO DAYS after your assigned lecture (see assignment file). Late questions will not receive EC.

Submitted questions will be used to generate a timed on-line practice exam prior to each block exam. Students can take the practice exam any time during the specified 24 hour period, open book, but they have only one hour to complete the exam (30-40 Qs). Statistical data of correct/incorrect subjects will help guide the review session. If a students takes and passes the practice exam (70%), the student will earn another point extra credit. With three practice exams, an additional three points can be earned.

5 points extra credit can make the difference between passing and conditional passing the course.
