Interview of _______________________________

Famous Canadian People Project

Name _______________________________

Let the following steps guide you through the development of your interview.

1 - Find out everything you can about your famous person - about his or her life and work, problems and achievements. Keep quick notes on the Quick Notes Page to help you organize your information.

2 - Find out all you can about the special area of expertise that your person is famous for, for example, as an author or artist. Keep quick notes to help you keep track of ideas.

3 - Now you are ready to start writing your interview questions. Make yourself a rule that you must not ask any questions with a “yes” or “no” answer - these are boring. Write your questions on the Biography Interview Questions pages. Use question starters such as:

“Analyse…”

“Assess…”

“Compare…”

“Contrast…”

“Define…”

“Describe…”

“Discuss…”

“Evaluate…”

“Explain…”

“Illustrate…”

“Relate…”

“Summarize…”

4 - Consider these points when writing your questions...

• Are your questions clearly stated?

• Do you understand what you are asking?

• Will your questions allow for a variety of answers?

• Do your questions ask for an opinion or for information or about the person’s experience?

• Will your questions require more than a “yes” or “no” answer?

• Do your questions encourage stories or sharing of facts?

• Use telling phrases such as “please tell” or “please describe.”

5 - Now you are ready to write the answers to your interview questions. Put yourself in your person’s shoes, and see how well you can answer the questions. Remember you are a famous person, and you are able to talk extensively about your knowledge and experience, and love having a chance to do so!

6 - Now pair up with a partner to help read, revise and edit your work. This partner will work with you to present your interview, one reading the questions and one reading the answers.

7 - With your partner, present your interview. One of you can be the interviewer and one can be the famous person.

Research and Reporting:

Students may select a famous Canadian for research. They may produce a final report and presentation or present an interview of their famous person. Either way, the product should include illustrations as appropriate.

Students may include any of the following in their final reports and presentations.

• Imagine that you are the person you are reporting about and that you are recording your experiences, feelings, and plans in a journal. Describe problems faced by you and how contact with other groups has brought both positive and negative changes to your life. Show how you have contributed to Canada. Include three referenced events from your time period.

• Present an interview with your famous person. Work with a partner for this.

• Locate places on maps and globes of Canada.

• Construct pictures, maps, diagrams and charts to display information.

N’oubliez pas, le projet final a besoin d’être présenter en français.
