Students will be allowed to use their phones should we experience a school emergency. **Description: This is a year-long class that focuses on the study of life. We will cover everything from cell and molecular biology to animal behavior to Ecology. We will research current issues in science, learn about DNA and proteins, and explore scientific research. This is an inquiry based course so be ready to ask questions, search for answers and work in a lab setting. It is my goal to have you thinking like a scientist by the end of the year, i.e., asking questions, thinking critically, performing research and proposing solutions. Grades: The emphasis of this course is placed on learning the material, not acquiring points. Daily work, homework, labs and exams will account for your final grade with the largest points coming from tests and labs. A final will be administered at the end of each semester.Absences: It is your responsibility to make up work when you miss class. You have the day you miss plus one to complete and turn in work. Activities and labs can be made up before or after school, as well as during lunch. Daily activities can be found on the course website. It is your responsibility to make up work. Supplies: I would like you to purchase a lab notebook (composition notebook) for this class and I ask that you bring it to class every day. However, I realize that most students carry their phone with them 24/7. To reduce the temptation to look at their phone during class, I have provided a charging station for students to recharge their phone. Once the phone goes into the charging station, it will stay there for the duration of class. If a student is seen using a phone in class, the phone goes into the charging station for the duration of class.
