Pens/Pencils2. Highlighters3. Binder (no paper) Notebook OrganizationThe first page of each unit will be your table of contents. This page in your notebook will consist of our unit of study, dates, page numbers and entry titles. Each day you will complete your table of contents page. I will place my copy on the white board for you to view. Please hold off on having to leave the classroom (ex. Bathroom) when completing the table of contents page in your notebook. This page will also be necessary when completing my notebook quizzes. The second page in your notebook, per unit, is a “Daily Question” page. Each day I will post a daily question on the white board. You are to come into class, grab your notebook, and write the daily question on this page. In addition, you must answer the daily question, independently. I will come around and check your answer. In order to get full credit for your work, the date, the question, and the answer must be written. Please note that you are still responsible for the daily question even when you are not in class. Please see me when you are absent. I will have all of the daily questions written in a class notebook, excluding the answers (you are responsible for the answer). The rest of your notebook will consist of class notes and handouts. Please number these pages as I instruct you to. Notebook QuizzesYou will receive a notebook quiz at the end of each unit. Sample questions include the following…1. What is the title of this unit?2. What is the entry title found on page 8 in your notebook?3. Write the daily question dated ______? You will be able to earn an A on each notebook quiz as long as your notebook is organized and complete. Class NotesYour class notes will be a fill in the blank format (guided notes). You will fill in the missing information (blanks) from the white board. Note taking is a critical time to pay attention. It is important to stay with the pace of the class. If talking, sleeping, or not paying attention during this time, you will miss valuable information. I will not provide you with the information missed if you choose to sleep, talk, etc. At the end of each section of your notes, you will be responsible to complete unit questions/vocabulary. You will turn in your questions/vocabulary at the end of each unit for a grade (exam day). ExamsI always provide a study guide prior to an exam. You will complete the study guide in class with your notes. Once finished, you will be expected to have your answers checked. I expect all students to study their study guide before an exam. Make-up DaysEvery other Friday will be a Make-up Day and an Organization Day. I will hand out a progress report which will have all of your missing assignments highlighted. You are expected to use this time to complete any missed work. This part of the class can also be used to organize your notebook. This time is valuable and if the class chooses not to use this time wisely, I will assign work to be completed. HomeworkAt the beginning of each science unit, I will give you questions that must be completed by the end of each unit (exam day). You are to complete these questions at home or on a make-up Friday (only if you have no make-up work). Additionally, when you are absent from class, you are expected to take home and complete any class work that you may have missed. AbsencesPlease see me when you return to class. I will have your missed class notes and/or worksheets. If you missed class notes, you will be given a teacher copy. Be sure to copy these notes into your notebook and return the teacher copy to me when finished. (The teacher copy is not to be placed into your notebook) Also, don’t forget to update your table of contents and your daily question page in your notebook. Getting missed work is your responsibility. GradesYou will receive a progress report every other Friday. I will highlight any missed assignments or exams.
