Science revision Topics for Year 7 pupils

Summer 2019

Pupils will need to use the following in order to help them with their revision:

• Their notes in the green exercise books

• Revision guides

• (click on KS3 and then the appropriate subject; Biology, Chemistry, Physics. GCSE may be clicked for more extension material)



Topics to be examined:

Biology

1. Nutrition and digestion (food tests, food as a fuel for respiration, food groups).

2. Respiration and gas exchange - (the chemical equation, breathing and the lungs, lung adaptations)

Chemistry

1. Atoms, molecules, elements and compounds.

2. Solids, liquids and gases, their properties and the Particle Theory.

3. Solutions and separation of mixtures.

4. Chemical reactions (oxidation and reduction, displacement reactions, metals and acids, metals and water, thermal decomposition and how to use a Bunsen burner – combustion)

5. Acids and alkalis/carbonates, indicators, the pH scale, neutralisation

6. Gas tests (for carbon dioxide, hydrogen, oxygen) and the test for water

7. Properties of metals and non-metals.

Physics

1. Electric circuits (symbols, series and parallel)

2. Space (eclipses, key terms, orbits, planets, satellites, day and night and the seasons)

The Exam

As well as testing knowledge and understanding of the topics, there will also be questions about experiments, involving interpreting data, completing and reading graphs, making predictions, describing fair tests etc.

Note: set 1 will have a chemistry paper AND a combined Physics/Biology paper

Set 2 will have ONE combined paper (Biology, chemistry and Physics)
