We started our month with the theme, “Pout Pout Fish!” We tried our hand at paper mache for art. Sadly, our balloons deflated before our paper mache was dry. Our other art projects were a success! Our second theme of the month was “Birds.” One favorite art project for this week was feather painting, where we took feathers dipped in paint and made pictures! Make sure to check them out in the entry. The other project we loved making was the homemade bird feeder. We fed the birds on the playground and tried to identify the ones we saw. To start off our week of fun for our “Kid’s Carnival” theme, we had a guest chef come in to make some yummy quesadillas! We wish that we could have had more than just one. On Wednesday, we decided to have some fun with water. We loved running through the sprinkler, playing in the water tables, and having water challenges! The carnival was a blast! Although we were not able to participate in the carnival as a whole school, we loved getting the prize bags together for everyone and planning all the games. Our last theme of the month was “Pasta Fun!” Again we started this week off with a guest chef! The fruit kababs had all of our favorite fruits! For science we made volcanoes, elephant toothpaste, and made a rubber egg by dissolving the egg shell. We have been working hard on math, writing, and reading this summer! In math, we have started working with fractions and time. For writing, we are starting to learn what makes a complete sentence. Capitalizing and end marks are proving to be a little tricky for us. We love reading in this class! You can always find one or two friends in the book corner. The sleepover was so much fun! We loved all the snacks, treats, and staying up super late with our friends!Preprimary News – Ms. Maria July started off with the theme, “Pout Pout Fish.” We used this week to read the Deborah Diesen books and do some crafts involving fish and underwater creatures. One of our favorite activities was making a happy (smoochy) / sad (pouty) fish using paper plates and a brad. We loved spinning our fish faces to reveal the “pouty”side and the “smoochy” side. We also learned about clams and oysters with songs and art. We closed out the week constructing clothespin bully sharks and cornsyrup oceans. The next week was all about birds! We learned about the parts of a bird, different eggs, and feathers. We had a fun owl craft that encouraged us to use our imaginations! We loved crushing up pretzel sticks and mixing them with melted chocolate to make bird nests. We then placed eggs (jelly beans) in our nests and ate them. One of my favorite activities this week was making toucan beaks. The kids colored cone shaped beaks and wore them on their faces! The next week’s theme was, “Kid’s Carnival.” The highlight of this week was the carnival planned and prepared by the elementary kids. They set up some carnival games for us to play in our rooms, which were so fun! They even packed some gift bags for us to take home! We also got to try apple slices with caramel dip-many of us thought we would not like the caramel dip but were proved wrong! Caramel apples and popcorn were two art projects we created to look like the real food. The caramel was made with a mixture of shaving cream, glue, and brown/white paint. The popcorn was dyed yellow by squirting yellow water through pipettes onto cotton balls. It’s fun to make art projects that relate to real food! The last week of July had the theme, “Pasta Fun.” We used various noodles to create art- white elbow noodles to make sheep, small shell noodles for leaves and colored bow-tie noodles for butterflies. We also painted our own masterpieces 264795041084500using cooked spaghetti noodles. Toddler II News - Ms. Brittany We started July with learning about the American flag. We were able to decorate t-shirts to look like fireworks- the children loved that we all had matching shirts! Our first theme was “Pout Pout Fish!” We got messy and made ocean sensory bags with hair gel and food coloring. We ended the week with a DJ and popcorn party to go with our book, “Pout Pout Can’t Sleep.” The second theme was “Birds.” We learned about different types of birds and the sounds they make. We painted some bird houses, painted with feathers, and went on a walk to see if we could find any birds. We sure did get excited when we saw some! We ended the theme by making haystacks and enjoying them for an afternoon snack. Our third theme was “Carnival.” We made cotton candy cookies, read a book about different things you can see at the carnival, and we even got to play some carnival games in our classroom and win some prizes! We ended the month of July with some “Pasta Fun!” We got to taste pasta with different sauces, and we also enjoyed playing in the sensory tabled filled with pasta. We have really enjoyed our time outside. The toddlers like their walks over to see the construction area. They love to see the machines that are making all the sounds we hear from our playground. We have also enjoyed a few picnic snack times on the playground.28025774354300Toddler I News – Ms. Michell Our themes for the weeks of July 6th-31st are “Pout Pout Fish,” “Kid’s Carnival,” and “Pasta Fun.” “Pout Pout Fish” was a fun theme. We enjoyed the Pout Pout Fish books we read during circle time. We loved playing in our water sensory bin with different kinds of fish! “Kid’s Carnival” was a little different this year. Instead of going outside and playing games with Ms. Dana’s class, they came up with games that we could play in our classroom. They also made gift bags that were filled with different prizes for our class. “Pasta Fun” was great! We used colored pasta for necklaces and played with cooked pasta in our sensory bin. It was so fun to squish, smell, and even taste it!688657580264000 Toddler 1 is loving all of the sunshine and warm weather. Along with practicing washing our hands, we have also been practicing putting our sunscreen on. It is like putting lotion on after a bath. It’s a little messy but we love it!Infant News-Ms. Connie For our theme “Pout Pout Fish” we read, “Smile Pout Pout Fish,” “Be Thankful Pout Pout Fish,” “The Pout Pout Fish & Bully Shark,” “Pout Pout Fish, Far, Far From Home,” “Pout Pout Fish Cleans Up the Ocean.” For art we made baby sharks, seahorses, and fish out of footprints. We also made fish and squid out of handprints. Hide and Seek is a game that we are practicing. The infants start off with a mesh cloth to cover their head and eyes. They love to respond as we slide the cloth off of their head. They have also been advancing on the game by using baskets and toys to hide their faces. Some of the older children are using their hands to cover their eyes. For our “Bird” theme, we read the books “Little Owl Colors,” “Duck Duck Goose,” “There is a Bird on Your Head,” “Brown Bear,” and “Purple Little Bird.” For art we made flamingos, hens, and owls out of handprints. We also made chicks, peacocks, and parrots out of footprints. The peacocks gone wild was our favorite art project of the week. We are using the climber to practice our crawling, climbing and sliding. The infant enjoy sharing time exploring this gross motor activities. We are excited about our carnival theme and have all kinds of fun foods and animals all over our room. For art we made popcorn, cotton candy, a hotdog, a pretzel, and an ice cream cone. We are reading “Little Elephant Listens,” “10 Baby Bears,” “Five Little Monkeys,” “Pigeon Finds a Hotdog,” and “At the Carnival.” For our last theme, “Pasta Fun” we are talking about different kinds of food. We made different kinds of noodles and used that as our sensory activity. Feeling the different textures and seeing how they squish in our fingers was so fun! For art, we made carrots, apples, strawberries, grapes, and watermelons with our feet. We are also reading “Pete the Cat Three Bite Rule,” “Pete the Cat’s Big Lunch” “Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party,” “If You Give a Pig a Pancake,” and “If You Give a Mouse a Muffin.” We are putting some of our art in the entry area so that the parents get a sneak-peak at what we are working on during the day. We are also continuing to work on sign language in our classroom. The Infant room is mastering eating at the table and we are working on using our cups, as well as our sippy cups. We have been practicing our sitting skills and we even believe that some of us will be crawling or walking soon!
