At this time I had the opportunity to work with Robert Usher, a forward thinking neonatologist who began a obstetric and neonatal database starting in 1968 and this database continues to the present day. I came to Harvard to pursue my Masters in the School of Public Health in the area of Quantitative Methods in 1992. I began my clinical practice at the Beth Israel Hospital in 1992, working with interns and resident, I was part of the faculty practice. I continued my clinical, teaching and research career in the area of stillbirth and stillbirth prevention and have been recognized on the local, national and international level as an expert in the area of stillbirth. In 1997 I had a son who was born very prematurely and need more care than a full-time mom/ physician, so in 2000, I accepted a 0.6 FTE at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates. At this time our practice was performing deliveries at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and I took this opportunity to develop the Stillbirth Review Committee which involved the participation of residents, and fellows and students in the area of general obstetrics, fetal maternal medicine and perinatal pathology. In 2002 I began collaborating with Dr Frederik Froen a Norwegian doctor MD, PhD who also had an interest in the risk factors of unexplained stillbirth and the role of kick counting in stillbirth prevention. I sponsored Dr Froen and he came with his family on a Fulbright Scholarship for one year. At this time we collaborated on two projects. One served the basis of the Harvard Risk Foundation grant, “The Management of pregnancies complicated with decreased fetal movement”. We also collaborated on a novel internet survey of over 2,900 women who had had a previous stillbirth. In 2004 I was voted on the Board of the International Stillbirth Alliance, and became Chair of the Scientific Committee.
