INTRODUCTION

An industry-led, non-profit organization, the MSSC is the nation¡¯s leading training and certification body for

the industry-wide core technical competencies for front-line production work (entry-level up to first line

supervisory) in advanced manufacturing and for front-line material handling and distribution work in the

closely related distribution-logistics industry. MSSC offers the Certified Production Technician (CPT)

certification for manufacturing and the Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) for distribution-logistics.

MSSC delivers its training and certification assessments through a network of 1700+ MSSC-trained Instructors

and 1000+ MSSC-authorized Assessment Centers, mostly at community colleges and secondary schools, in 49

states plus D.C. To date, it has issued some 137,000 assessments and 102,000 credentials to about 53,000

individuals. Inasmuch as those numbers are now growing rapidly, MSSC has decided to start an index of

MSSC CPT and CLT credentials in the manufacturing and the logistics industries (M&L).

This ¡°MSSC M&L Index¡± is intended as a data-based resource that companies and state agencies can take into

account in their decisions to locate a new plant or distribution center. The availability of a robust pipeline of

high skilled workers is a key factor in these decisions. A substantial number of MSSC CPT and CLT certified

technicians is a solid indicator of the commitment of that location to filling that pipeline.

This Index does not include all CPT and CLT credentials issued nationwide. To ensure that it provides a

sufficient level of data to be relevant to locational decisions, the Index selects only the leading user states and

the assessment-training centers within each state that are above the national average of 140 MSSC CPT and

CLT certifications per Assessment Center.

Under these criteria, the number of states that are above the national average is 30. For convenient

reference, those states are listed alphabetically in the tables, with the ranking of each state within the 30

indicated next to the name of the state. To secure contact information for individual MSSC Assessment

Centers listed in the M&L Index, go to ¡°Locations¡± map at . If your state is not in the Top 30

suggestions on how to boost your numbers of MSSC credentials.

NOTE: Since MSSC is experiencing substantial growth in the number of certifications it issues nationwide, it
