Borderline

Images shot by Doctors Without Borders illustrate a compelling narrative of hardship, poverty, charity and generosity around the world.

Communications: Graphic design and the communication arts

This exhibition will highlight local and national commercial designers, works will be both print and web based.

Dameon Lester/The Natural World/Landscape Redefined

The themes of nature, both plant and animal, are explored though sculptural and installation based objects crafted from unique and varied media.

Drawn/Draft/Depict, Irvine Valley College

Tyler Stallings, Deb Sokolow, Rebecca Carter, Brian Getnick and Joe Biel all make drawings that tell a story, create a character or develop an environment of fictional places. In doing so they introduce us to a powerful new narrative voice. Whether through simple pencil on paper, charcoal on wall or complex yet delicate installations of fine thread the medium is one of historic origin. For these artists the immediacy of drawing is the most appropriate for their narrative concepts.

Idle Hands: Contemporary Sculptural Ceramics, Irvine Valley College

This exhibition explores the media of clay and its many expressive forms. Clay, often considered the media of teapots and coffee mugs, becomes an expression of landscapes, foreign locales and exotic peoples in the hands of these four local artists.

Antistatic, Irvine Valley College

Three local artists explore the world of kinetic sculpture and in doing so demonstrate the continuing influence of technology and innovation in contemporary art.

Magnificent Obsession: New Work by Douglas Cason, Irvine Valley

College

Through the physical and deliberate manipulation of historical books and the creation of a fictional historian, Cason asks the viewer to question the facts of history as we have learned them and hopes to create an awareness of the truth that lies behind a history written by men observing it through biased eyes.

A Cup of Cold Water Project: photographs taken by jerry mcgrath while on sabbatical in south asia, Irvine Valley College

With this series of powerful and moving documentary photographs the artist is raising awareness of the forced prostitution taking place in the temple societies of South Asia.

Truth Implied: The Nature of Contemporary Photography in the

Digital Age, Irvine Valley College

In our contemporary society where photos are not always reality, Naida Osline, Leonard Correa and Eric Jones are using technological manipulation to challenge our perceptions

The artists included in this exhibition selectively add and subtract critical information from their photographs to tell a story or present reality using a medium associated with transparent truths.   In order to engage the work, the role of the viewer is changed from one of passivity to one of active participation.
