BLACK HISTORY ESSAY AND COLORING CONTEST RULES

ESSAY CONTEST TOPIC: In celebration and honor of Black History Month NORD is hosting an essay and coloring contest. Youth and teens interested in entering should write an essay about the life, accomplishments, and positive contributions of an African American present day or historical figure.

Essays will be judged by Youth Programs staff and guest judges.

GRADE CATEGORIES (One winner will be selected from each category):

ELEMENTARY (Pre-K ? 5th grade) MIDDLE SCHOOL (6th ? 8th grade) HIGH SCHOOL (9th ? 12th grade)

The word limit is as follows:

ELEMENTARY ? 75 WORDS minimum MIDDLE ? 150 WORDS minimum HIGH SCHOOL ? 300 WORDS minimum

COLOR CONTEST INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Pick up a Coloring Sheet from any NORDC Rec Center or download a copy from our website at .

2. Have fun coloring the inspirational and iconic color sheet. 3. Complete the contact information section on the color sheet 4. Email a scanned copy or drop off your completed color sheet at the NORDC Admin. Office

(5420 Franklin Ave.) or any rec center (see list below). 5. Once submitted, you will automatically be entered in a drawing to win prizes.

SUBMISSION PROCESS

All entries (essay and/or color contest) must be submitted one of the following ways by Friday, February 9, 2018:

Winners must be present to win at the Black History Month Showcase on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Sanchez Multi-Service Center located at 1616 Caffin Ave. The event starts at 6:00pm.

Winners will receive a prize and your submission could be posted on NORDC website or via social media
