Rubric For Black History Research Project Social Studies/RELA/Math (FAMU) RELA Rubric
Students will research African Americans that have made contributions to the global community. Due date is either Wednesday, February 27, or Thursday, February 28, 2013 (dependent upon when you have Social Studies). Assignments submitted after this date will not be accepted and will receive a grade of "0". No exceptions!!!
Papers must by typed. No hand written papers will be accepted. All papers must be typed or printed prior to the due date and time and turned in at the beginning of the Social Studies class period.
For a total of 300 points, the following is required:
20pts.
Title/Heading- to include Name, Name of teacher, Class, Date, and Name of person being researched. For an example, visit
30pts
Bibliography Page ? documentation of sources using MLA citation (google "MLA citation style" for details). Must have 3 or more sources, one of which must be a book or encyclopedia. Or go to e.g.
35pts.
Double ? spaced Font Size ? 12pt. Format ? Times New Roman or Arial Black ink only 3 ? 4 pages
35pts.
Proper grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and proper indentation and organization. Paragraphs must consist of 7 or more sentences
70pts.
Research Content must be in students own words (We will know the difference). Include: Background information ? full name, birth date, Place of birth, family history/background, marriage, children, education, memberships to professional organizations, career span, interesting facts, contributions and its significance, awards and accomplishments, date and place of death along with anything else you think is necessary to include.
50pts.
Timeline ? Timeline is complete and contains at least 7 important/interesting events in your historical figures life and the dates for each item; it should be large enough to read from at least 6 feet away, neat and visually appealing
25pts.
Research must be clean, neat, in order, no wrinkles, stains or folds (report cover is appropriate)
20pts.
Presentation skills ? good eye contact, erect posture, voice projection, summarize/highlight major content of research (see visual presentation rubric)
10pts.
Bonus: Computer/internet pictures of the person &/or their contribution(s)
Black History Project Visual Presentation Rubric
This is the grading scale we will be using when grading your visual presentation. You can receive a total of 20 points on the visual presentation part of your project.
Writing a Bibliography
The purpose of recording your sources is to give credit to the author for his or her work. Also, other people who wish to read more about your topic can go to your source to read the entire article. And finally, if you are writing a research paper, your teachers can also go to those sources to make sure that you have not directly copied the words of the author (plagiarism).
Components of a Bibliography- The following items must be included if they are available.
? Author's name ? Title of the book, article, or website ? Date that it was published/printed ? Name of the publishing company ? Location of the publishing company ? URL-Website address ? Date of retrieval from the website
Format- There are several different formats, or order of listing things. The authors' last names should be listed in alphabetical order. For this class we will use the following:
Book: Author's last name, author's first name. (date of publication). Title (either
underlined or in italics), publisher location: publisher name.
Website:
Author's last name (if known), author's first name (if known). (date of article publication), Title of website and article. URL. date of retrieval (when you got it from the Internet)
