MVLO offers online courses for high school credit in collaboration with the local school systems. MVLO is not a school and does not offer a complete high school diploma program online. The teaching is conducted online with the teacher separated from the student by time and/or distance. The teacher communicates with students online and via the telephone. The courses are interactive and provide a wide variety of activities, ass ignments, and assessments. The credit earned by taking an MVLO course is entered into the student's record by the local public high school.

Each AACPS student enrolled in an online course is assigned an Online Support Teacher from their school who serves as a mentor to the student.

Parents are vital to the success of students. They will be able to monitor the progress of their child as well as maintain consistent communication with the online instructors and support teachers.

What makes a successful online student?

? Has basic technology skills (i.e., web searching, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, sending email attachments)

? Is a self-disciplined and self-motivated learner ? Works well independently ? Feels comfortable asking for help through

email or on forums when confused ? Is skilled in online reading, writing and interaction ? Is willing to work hard (i.e., investment of time,

effort) to learn

Who qualifies and who approves?

To qualify, students must be enrolled in: ? An Anne Arundel County public school, or ? An approved nonpublic school program authorized by local school system placement.

Online Enrollment Request Process:

1. Students and parents consult with the school counseling office and gain prior approval.

2. School counselor assists the student in com pleting the request form.

3. School counselor digitally competes the Online Enrollment Request Form and emails or faxes the Agreement forms with signatures to Patrick Malone at 410-721-8369. (pmalone@)

Please Note: Enrollment is based on course availability and approval by the student's local school system. Students are not guaranteed enrollment in MVLO/MVS courses. The local school administration makes the determination.

In Maryland, COMAR 13A.03.02.05D(1) specifies that high school credit may only be awarded for MSDE-approved online courses. This list of courses is updated periodically.
