Creating a WebDAV Connection to Your Blackboard Course

What is WebDAV

WebDAV stands for "Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning". It is a web tool that allows the user to create a connection from their personal computer to a folder on another computer. In this case, you will connect to the File Manager of your Blackboard course.

For Mac OsX Users

WebDAV is integrated into MacOS X. This makes it very simple to mount a WebDAV directory just as you would any other volume. In short, it allows you to mount your course’s Manage Files or Backups and use the Finder’s file management system to move and edit files.

1. From the Finder click Apple-K or use the menu item GO… CONNECT TO SERVER.

2. Mac OS X’s “Connect to Server” window will open.

3. Then paste the WebDAV URL that you copied from the Web DAV info page from your Blackboard course.

4. Click the CONNECT button.

5. A User Name and Password screen will appear, enter your Blackboard course designer user name and password. Click OK.

6. Your directory will now be mounted. Depending on your Finder preferences, it may display on your desktop or be accessible through the Finder.

You should now be able to drag and drop files and folders between your computer and the folder for the File Manager in your Blackboard course.
