DMU Replay title: Blackboard - login (July 2018) Speaker: Maxine ArmstrongTotal length of audio: 00:04:30.500Hello, welcome to Blackboard, the virtual learning environment or VLE at De Montfort University. A vle is basically the website that hosts all your learning resources and lets you connect with your lecturers and fellow students. You can view Blackboard in most web browsers, so you can use recent versions of Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome or Safari. There is also an app for smart phones. I am using Chrome, but use whichever you are familiar with.As a distance learner you will be accessing Blackboard off campus so you can either get to Blackboard from MyDMU or you can open it directly. If you use a search engine, and here I am using Google, again use which ever one is most familiar to you.Type in Blackboard and DMU and hit enter. Usually it is the first return and says Blackboard at DMU. The actual web address is vle.dmu.ac.uk.On the Welcome page there are usually system announcements and there are also links to a browser checker and browser support hidden down here. Click continue to take us the login page.Blackboard uses the same login as other online systems such as MyDMU. If you have already logged into Office 365 you will not need to login again. You will be taken straight to the home page.If you have not logged in yet you will need to login. Your username is your p number and the p is included. It is not case sensitive, so upper or lower case. Your password is initially your date of birth, unless you have already changed it via my DMU.It is in the format, two digits for the day, a forward slash ...... two digits for the month, another forward slash ...... and then two digits for the year, so it is eight characters altogether. The home page has a number of boxes which can be minimised and moved. There are three buttons here in the top left corner. Under Services you have links to different DMU services, such as the Student Internet pages, My Gateway, and the Password Self Service. Another useful one is the library. The UserGuide will open in a new browser tab so you will need to ensure your browser doesn’t block it. Here is the student support for Blackboard and other technologies such as DMU Replay and Turnitin.Back on the Home tab you can add different resources that you may find useful. There are not many, but you may need to add Campus Pack if your module is using it. Your lecturer will let you know. So I am just going to add Campus Pack now. I can scroll down and click okay at the bottom. You may want to add the calculator or notes if you'll think you find them useful. You can see now that Campus Pack has been added at the bottom. Now if you want to open Blackboard from MyDMU you need to use Blackboard Lite. Click the Blackboard Lite tile to open it. Now click on Blackboard Home, it will open in a new browser window or tab. If you have not logged into Single Sign On you will need to log in again using the login details shown earlier. When you have finished with Blackboard log off by clicking the button in the top right hand corner.Thank you for watching. ................
