GPS: SS6G8 The student will locate select features of Europe.

Common Core: ELACC6-8RH7 Students will integrate visual information with other information in print or digital texts.

ELACC6-8RH4: The student will determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies. ELACC6-8RH7: The student will integrate visual information.

Warm-up:

CRCT Coach Questions 301, 302, 303, 304, 305

Key Terms: Agriculture, Service Industry Jobs, Manufacturing, Central London, Westminster Abbey, Thames River, House of Parliament, Budget, and Renting.

Learning Activities:

1. Binder: Labeled (warm-ups, notes, graded work, and handouts)

2. Review Syllabus (focus on Grades)

3. Handout of Europe Outline and Review

4. PP of the United Kingdom (Review UK)

5. Finish House Hunters International (UK) Focus: Olympics, Parliament, Westminster Abby, Thames River, Queen Elizabeth, William and Kate)

Students will compare the cost of living in the United Kingdom to the United States.

Differentiation: Using technology in the classroom.

GPS: SS6G8 The student will locate select features of Europe

Common Core: LITCC6-8RHSS10 By the end of grade 8, students will read and comprehend history/social studies texts in the grades 6-8 text and will be able to use this text independently and proficiently.

ELACC6-8RH7: The student will integrate visual information.

Warm-up: Students will label a blank map with the world continents. Students will label the oceans, the equator, and the arctic and Antarctica

Essential Question: Where is the world continents located?

Key Terms: North America, Central America, South America, Africa, Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia

Learning Activities: Students will be able to identify and label the continents of the world on a physical feature map.

Students will checkout a book from the media center that connects to Europe.

Students will use a graphic organizer to label facts from their books.

Differentiation: The teacher is incorporating literature in social studies. The students will select books by interest. Students will use a graphic organizer.

Warm-up: CRCT Coach Pages 112-113

In their warm-up section of their binders, students will label the numbers 282-287 and answer the questions with an A, B, C, or D answer. Students will be able to identify the select countries of Europe on a map.

Essential Question: Where are the select countries of Europe located on a map?

Key Terms: Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, Russia, the Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. English Channel, Mediterranean Sea, Iberian Peninsula, Pyrenees Mountains, European Plain, Rhine River, Alps, Danube River, Scandinavian Peninsula, Ural Mountains.

ELACC6-8RH9: The student will analyze the relationship between a primary and secondary source.

Warm-up and E.Q.: What is the difference between fact and opinion? What is the difference between a primary and secondary source of information?

Key Terms: Current Events, Online News, Primary and Secondary Source, Fact, and Opinion. Select European Countries.

Learning Activities:

Students will bring in current events related to our select European countries.

Students will present their news to the class.

Students will locate their specific country on a world map.

Students will identify their news as fact or opinion.

Students will identify their news as primary or a secondary source.

Differentiation:

Students will research a news event.
