Novena in Honor of
Our Lady’s Assumption
Aug. 7-15 or Aug. 16-24
O Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God and Mother of men, we believe with all the fervor of our faith in your triumphal Assumption into Heaven, body and soul, where you are acclaimed as Queen of all the choirs of angels, and the countless multitude of saints. We unite with them in thanking and praising God, who has exalted you above all the heavenly hosts.
In your mercy, dearest Mother, look down upon our miseries and our sorrows, upon our struggles and our weaknesses. Help us to remain pure in mind and body, to bear the crosses of life, and to live and die in close union with your Divine Son. Intercede with Him on our behalf, and obtain the graces and favors we ask in this novena.
(Here mention your requests.)

Lights of Eucharistic Holy Hours
Recently Fr. John Lankeit, Rector of Ss. Simon & Jude Cathedral, envisioned during prayer an image of the United States from space. Our country was covered by points of light. Everywhere there was a Eucharistic Holy Hour the light of Christ was banishing evil back into the shadows where it belongs.
Fr. Lankeit called for Holy Hours as a wonderful display of Christian solidarity in opposition to a public black mass to be held in a government building in Oklahoma City in September. He saw the power of Holy Hours in dealing with such evil and the other seemingly insurmountable problems including attacks from Washington on religious freedom.
A black Mass is a sacrilegious ceremony using the Sacred Host stolen from a Catholic church and invoking satan in a profane sexual ritual.
Prayer and public outrage resulted in cancellation of a black mass which had been scheduled in May at Harvard.
“The worship of the Eucharist outside of the Mass is of inestimable value…Of all devotions, that of adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the greatest after the sacraments, the one dearest to God and the one most helpful to us.”
- St. John Paul II
A great sign of HOPE is that the U.S. has more Adoration Chapels than the total of all other countries. Korea and Philippines have many also.
Special August Guests
Fr. Thomas Enneking, OSC, Prior Provincial of
U.S. Crosier Community.
Fr. David Kemna, FSSP, Mater Misericordiae
Mission
Fr. James Kubicki, SJ, National Director of
Apostleship of Prayer.
Pope to Visit South Korea
A dynamic Catholic Church awaits Pope Francis in his August 14-18 pastoral visit to South Korea. His visit has two principal reasons: to attend the 6th Asian Youth Day and to beatify 124 Korean martyrs. They were among 10,000 mostly lay Catholics killed in the 19th century Confucian-dominated Korea.
In the last decade the number of Catholics in the country has increased 70%. It is hoped that the papal visit will promote religious vocations and conversions.
St. John Paul II’s visits were always preceded by prayer campaigns. Let us pray for the safety and success of Pope Francis’ Korean journey.
St. Maximilian Kolbe,
Timely Intercessor
Patron of our difficult age:
+ Pro-life movement
+ Addictions + Prisoners
+ Conversions + Families
+ Healings (spiritual, mental, physical)
+ Communications apostolates
This contemporary saint lived in most difficult times (1894-1941). Reliance on Mary as “the Immaculata” sustained him from childhood throughout his life. With typical zeal he ministered to fellow prisoners. In his final days in Auschwitz he prepared others for death. The Nazis were convinced that his death would spread hope-lessness. Instead it enkindled hope and courage among guards and prisoners alike throughout the death camps.
St. Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us.

Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the altar. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
