Blood Donations/Transfusions LabObjective: To determine which blood types can donate to each other & be received safely.Materials: 8 test tubes and holder1 dropper1 empty cup for your “bad blood transfusions”1 cup full of water to “rinse” your dropper1 cup full of water to make new “blood”2 paper towelsProcedure: 1. Get 8 clean test tubes and holder.2. Label test tubes: 2 test tubes “A”, 2 test tubes “B”, 2 test tubes “AB”, 2 test tubes “O”. Make sure they are in this order.3. Go to the front table and fill each test tube ? way with the correct “blood”.4. Follow the chart below to test for safe & unsafe donations/transfusions. Add the “blood” to the other test tubes using the dropper. Use 3ml of “blood” for your transfusion. REMEMBER: If there is no color change, the transfusion/donation was SAFE. If there is a color change the transfusion/donation was UNSAFE.5. Be sure to rinse the eyedropper each time in your cup of “Rinse” water.6. If a transfusion/donation was UNSAFE & there was a color change, you must get new blood for that type. Empty the “bad blood” into the empty cup & when full, empty it into the container labeled “Biohazardous Material” at the front of the room.7. Document your results on the data chart below.
