| |regarding what we put in for Transfers in regards to clinic/MD office/ free standing| |

| |ED to facility. We will continue to look at this list, redefine it and update it, | |

| |encouraging all to utilize it. State contingency feels that we should look into | |

| |differences and will bring that back to April Meeting. | |

| |by cutting and piercing instruments or objects. Penetrating injuries were | |

| |identified to E920, blunt injuries were identified to E919. | |

|Dates |Peggy, Tamara, and Craig have been working on a grant proposal for | |

|Letters of support |funding for Trauma Related ICD-10 Education. 112 people have been | |

|Venues |identified as needing education outside of their facility. If you | |

| |haven’t replied to survey monkey please do so. They have contacted | |

| |several contractors, and Pomphrey Consultants seemed to have the best| |

| |material during preview on trauma coding. Two different coding | |

| |classes, grant put in for both classes. Will require some online | |

| |prerequisite classes followed by two day class attendance in person. | |

| |One will be held in Denver Metro Area and one will be in an outlying | |

| |area. AV will be needed but not individual computers for each | |

| |attendant. Last week of August 25th/26th one class 27th/28th the | |

| |next class. Vail Valley Medical Center and Parkview Medical Center | |

| |will look to see if they can open up space for this week. | |

| |Craig will see if he can open up that week. Volunteers within the | |

| |Denver Metro Area are welcome to provide a place for this class as | |

| |well. Letters of support are needed no later than February 10th. | |

| |Please give to Trauma Medical Director to sign and then send to Craig| |

| |as requested on the bottom of the paper. Peggy will link this letter | |

| |to the COTrauma web site. Swedish Medical Center will offer a class | |

| |in September for those people unable to attend this training. When | |

| |looking at the letter you will have your Trauma Medical Director | |

| |sign, please include a statement about the importance for the rural | |

| |facilities in particular who have less access to educational | |

| |resources. | |

| |TOPIC course will be held as a preconference course in Breckenridge | |

| |Tuesday July 8th from 0800-1700. | |

|Education: Backboards |Sherry Peckham did a presentation on the use of backboards at |15 Minutes |

| |Longmont United. | |

| |Sherry will forward slides to Peggy and we will get these slides to | |

| |the CTN website. | |

| |Skin breakdown can affect 33-56% of ICU patients…increased LOS/MM to | |

| |trauma population, particularly elderly clientele. Had a goal to get| |

| |patients off of backboard within 20 minutes. Had physician specific| |

| |data to determine time off of backboard. Designed a protocol for | |

| |nurse initiated removal at entry. Educated staff and local EMS | |

| |partners. EMS partners utilized more Scoops than backboards. See | |

| |slides for statistics of improvement from this. The hospital now has| |

| |up to 98% compliance in the last quarter. “We learned to involve | |

| |wound care evaluations early.” Closely evaluated wounds from ED | |

| |forward. | |
