4. Playing up: Recognized as a tool available for use to accomplish said but “playing up is not recognized as an option available upon players request alone.

POLICY BODY

The following document provides guidance for the MYSA Roster Committee in order to provide ample opportunities for boys and girls to play soccer and assigning players to team rosters appropriately. It is understood there may be circumstances that are not covered within the policy and the BOD will become involved in team roster decisions.

1. The first draft of soccer teams are formulated when registration after registration deadline.

a. Position 50 % of returning players on the team they previously played.

← U10 teams are the exception

b. Position 50% of the new players per the MYSA age calendar

c. Teams may recruit new players after registration closes if the team is not full.

2. The second draft of soccer teams :

a. New recruits are placed into the appropriate team rosters.

b. Players are moved to allow for adequate player numbers on each team.

c. Start with the youngest team and move up players as appropriate.

d. If the oldest team has less than the maximum roster amount, initiate the Play up policy for number of extra players available on the younger team.

e. If the next oldest team has the maximum roster , then initiate try outs to determine if younger players make the team.

f. Start with the next oldest team and pull appropriate players up.

← Identify the oldest team with less than the protected roster.

← If the next youngest team has more than the protected minimum roster, initiate the play up policy for the lesser quantity of the amount of player spots below the protected minimum roster at the older age group. The other alternative is to the amount of players above the protected maximum roster at the younger age group/team.

g. Only one push and one pull procedure has been utilized, teams with less than the absolute minimum yearly roster must disband.

← Disbanded players may try out for the next oldest team provided there is available positions on the roster.

← Disbanded players will be reimbursed all league fees an uniform costs.

3. Playing up:

a. Younger team must have the protected maximum roster.

b. The older team must start with the protected minimum roster.

c. Player and parent must express interest in playing up.

d. Both coaches must approve based on the following criteria:

← Player must display the physical, technical, and emotional maturity to play at a higher level.

← If coaches are uncertain or disagree a tryout needs to occur.

e. Players must have at least one year of experience to play up.

f. Players are not allowed to play up more than one age bracket, per MYSA age calendar.

g. Playing up must be offered to all eligible players on the younger team.

h. Girls playing on the proper age coed team is considered playing up.

i. Girls cannot be rostered on coed teams unless:

← The proper age girls team has more than the maximum roster.

← The next older age bracket girls’ team has more than the maximum roster.

← The proper age coed team has less than the maximum roster.

4. Try-outs may be necessary for teams cutting players or competing players for playing with the next older age bracket team.

a. Try-outs will be performed in front of a try-out committee consisting of all available coaches.

b. All try-outs will be performed at the same time.

c. Try-outs will test and grade the following:

← Soccer skills

← Physical skills

← Coaches affected directly by the results will participate in the try-out process.

← Players coached by their parent do not have to compete for a position on his/her current team.

← If a coach’s child tries out for an older team bracket the coach cannot displace the incumbent unless agreed by the BOD and unless a replacement coach is available for the younger team.

← Cut players will be reimbursed for all registration fees and uniform costs.
