BODILY FLUID SPILL CLEAN-UP PROCEDURE

Non-Food Accident, Bodily Fluid Spill Clean Up Procedure

? Close or block off the affected area using the `Caution - Wet Floor' signs or safety cones until the clean-up procedure is completed and the area is dry.

? Get Spill Clean-up kit located with Chemical Safety Data Sheet-holder in back of house. ? Put on disposable gloves. Open Spill clean- up kit, follow instructions on applying absorbent, etc. ? Spray the spill thoroughly with disinfectant ( Purell Sanitizer ); allow at least 1 minute contact time. ? Use scoop/scraper to completely pick up all of the substance and place it in the red biohazard trash

bag. Seal the bag tightly by tying the bag in a knot. Put this sealed trash bag into a second trash bag. Do not seal the outer trash bag at this point. ? Remove gloves as follows:

a) Grasp the glove at your wrist at the back of your hand (not the underside). b) Peel the glove off your hand, turning it inside out as you remove it. If you are wearing only

one glove, be sure you do not touch the fingers or palm of the glove with your bare hand. c) Discard the glove into the outer trash bag. d. Remove the glove on your other hand. Do not

touch the fingers or palm of the glove with your bare hand as you remove it to prevent the possibility that your bare hand could become contaminated. ? Wash hands following proper hand hygiene procedures. Put on a new pair of disposable gloves. ? Once more, saturate the spill area with disinfectant, Purell Sanitizer / disinfectant for 1 minute. ? Use yellow towel(s) to clean up area, and place the yellow towels into the outer trash bag. ? Remove disposable apron (if used) and gloves, following instructions above and place them into the outer trash bag. Seal the outer trash bag tightly by tying the top of the bag in a knot. ? Place the sealed trash bag into a dumpster outside the restaurant. Do not discard in an inside trash receptacle ? If the affected area is a food area, it is recommended that open and exposed food items and single service items be discarded. Other exposed equipment or utensils must be washed, rinsed and sanitized at the 3-compartment sink. Use the Purell Sanitizer to spray / wipe down equipment. ? Reopen the affected area that was just disinfected and sanitized. ? Thoroughly wash and sanitize hands following proper hand hygiene procedures before returning to other duties. ? Fill out the bodily fluid clean-up tracking sheet,(located in the safety data sheet holder, once completed place sheet back in Safety Data Sheet holder located in back of the house. ? Order another Bodily Fluid clean-up kit from Huddle House distribution Center.
