The topic sentence is the first sentence of your paragraph. It will explain to the reader what the paragraph will be about. It should be an interesting sentence that catches the reader’s attention. It should also reflect a reason why your thesis statement is true and valid. An example of a weak topic sentence is, “Montag is a conflicted man.” An example of a strong topic sentence is, “Through the character Guy Montag, Ray Bradbury clearly shows how individual thought and courage is what it takes to fight against a society that embraces and celebrates ignorance.”
