RSP 100 Response 7/10/07

The RSP Periodic Email Archive:

With somethings old, somethings new, somethings borrowed and sometimes blue!

Please realize that the focus of RSP was never intended to be a pension mess. When this is over and done with, I will direct this email and website in a lighter direction. I post almost every email that I receive, with last names removed unless granted permission. The editor does not always agree with contributors, but protects their right to share opinion We will share info that we think our community will find pertinent and enjoyable. Thank you for staying in touch and happy retirement!

The following are the RSP email archives that I still have, complete with grammar and mis-spelled SNAFU's! Caution, when reading archives keep in mind our world is a dynamic place and many bits of information become dated and are super-ceded by later updated info.

Dear Retired Delta Pilot,

A little slow:

Other than the 787 rollout and suspected big order, the China route news, the stock ticking up encouragingly, there hasn't been all that much notable news affecting us retirees.  The main reason for this RSP is to repeat the exhortation from DP3 to get your response letters in by July 12th if you have an existing objection.  Please note bullet #3 below.

DAL NEWS/RUMORS: (DAL AJC, DAL Yahoo,)

| |

Is DAL becoming a DARLING?  NWA has lower load factors, increased cancellations, labor strife.  UAL has had mediocre performance since emerging.  Jet Blue has started to see more more what it is like to play with the big boys.

Is DAL positioned to take advantage?  Will China, aircraft order announcement, high load factors, good on time performance, and higher fares that are sticking all bode well for DAL?  Is the stock on an uphill march?  I earlier expected the stock price of DAL to somewhat mirror what happened historically to UAUA.  That pattern may not be in store for this airline that appears to be postitioned better.  Do not forget there is huge amount of stock outstanding that had been claim awards.  AMEX, Boeing, and the PBGC all have a tremendous amount of stock to sell. That sell off (when it occurs) will bring significant downward pressure on stock price.

Subject: B777 Job Info

I got the attached message from Rishworth Aviation, a pilot recruiting agency in NZ.  They contacted me, in a search for 777 captains, for info on how to reach DALPA and pass the word around.  Over age 60 is OK.

This is apparently a sign of the times around the world...huge shortage of experienced captains.  If you know anyone who might be interested, the Rishworth contact info is in the attachment.   Hope this can help someone.

Subject: DELTA PILOT UNION CONTACT

Hi there,

Apologies for contacting you in this manner.  I noticed you are registered on our database with Rishworth Aviation.

Air India are experiencing an urgent requirement for B777 pilots.  I was wondering if you might have the contact details for your pilot union as these are positions available to captains and FOs over 60.

I am attaching a document for your reference.  Air India are experiencing such a shortage at present that they will now negotiate rates in the hope of satisfying their short term needs.

Thanks and once again sorry for the intrusion.

Kind regards

Natalie Cooke, Recruitment Manager

RE: Thoughts 7-4-07

Yes – there are many things to be thankful for. I have had a few medical issues but I was able to retire with my Lump. The D/S Fund has been a God send (although I have tried to plan my life without it). I am teaching high school now, Special Ed. Math/Science, and I work around hard working people every day that put a lot into the future of America. They have been doing it so long that they sometimes forget. I try to constantly remind them how much they are helping our children. When bankruptcy and health issues make our lives miserable (as far as we are concerned), there is really no value in moaning and groaning. Do what you can, be grateful, and go on with your life. I tell my friends that I would rather be in the arms of my wife and children any day, than in the arms of Jesus. - Steve

RE: Earned Income:

Mark,

This "earned income" may also affect Medicare payments down the road. I think the "look back" is 2 years and the amount paid for Medicare would increase for "high income" folks.

This is for all the germ conscious folks that worry about using cold water to clean.

John went to visit his 90 year old grandfather in a very secluded, rural area of Georgia

After spending a great evening chatting the night away, John's grandfather prepared breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast.  However, John noticed a film like substance on his plate, and questioned his grandfather asking, "Are these plates clean?"

His grandfather replied, "They're as clean as cold water can get them. Just you go ahead and finish your meal, Sonny!"

For lunch the old man made hamburgers.  Again, John was concerned about the plates as his appeared to have tiny specks around the edge that looked like dried egg and asked, "Are you sure these plates are clean?"

Without looking up the old man said, "I told you before, Sonny, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them.  Now don't you fret, I don't want to hear another word about it!"

Later that afternoon, John was on his way to a nearby town and as he was leaving, his grandfather's dog started to growl, and wouldn't let him pass.  John yelled and said, "Grandfather, your dog won't let me get to my car"

Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching on TV, the old man shouted .

"COLDWATER, GO LAY DOWN!!!!"   Coldwater is the house dog!
