Pikesville Middle School Summer Reading ProgramReading during the summer months is critical to prevent “summer slide.” Research indicates that students lose up to two months of reading skills over the summer if they do not read for pleasure at a comfortable reading level. To combat “summer slide” and prepare our students to be successful in the coming school year, we require all students entering grades six through eight to read one novel of their choosing over the summer and complete the assignment on the next page. This assignment will be graded as it is based on standards that have been addressed in prior grades. The assignment is due to students’ language arts teachers by September 21st. The websites listed below, as well as the librarian at your local Baltimore County Public Library, can assist you as you select a quality novel to read. In addition to the websites below, a list of great books is attached on the following pages. Directions to read free e-books from Destiny and Tumblebooks are also attached. HAPPY READING!
