Battle of the Books Club Student Application Form - West Millbrook Magnet Middle SchoolStudent’s Name:____________________________________________ Home Phone:_______________________Address: ____________________________________________________________________________________Current Grade Level: __________ Parent/Guardian Name(s): ______________________________Parent/Guardian E-mail:______________________ Parent/Guardian Contact Phone: ________________________First Period Teacher: __________________________ Guided Study Teacher: ____________________________I understand that this is a book COMPETITION, and that to compete successfully on the WMMS Battle of the Books team, I must read as many of the 22 Battle books as possible, but at least 6 books, assigned by BOB advisors, between now and December 17. The first book will be assigned at the first meeting, and then as one book is finished, the next one will be assigned to ultimately ensure that every book has been read by at least 3 team members who make it to competition.I commit to attend BOB team meetings from 3:20 – 4:30 on September 10, October 8, November 12, and weekly starting December 10. I understand that on February 6, a second meeting on Thursdays will be held until the district competition in mid-February, and that these meetings are optional, but highly encouraged.I understand that if I miss two unexcused meetings in a row, that I will no longer be on the team. (Meetings need to be excused IN ADVANCE, unless you are absent from school on the day of the meeting.)Due to the limited number of books available at WMMS, I understand that I may need to check them out at a Wake County Public Library, or access the books through other means. After reading a book, I agree to write at least five questions and answers based on the book I just completed and will give Mrs. Walters the questions that will eventually be shared with others for competition purposes.I understand that this is a competitive team, and that I must earn my place on the team. Starting at the December 17 meeting, members of the team will begin competing with each other with book knowledge questions. Data will be kept regarding each individual member's contribution of book knowledge during the intra-team competition. This will be used to determine which team members will actively compete at the district level.?Student Signature: ________________________________________________ Date: ______________________ 2019-20 Book List ?Serafina and the Black Cloak by Robert BeattyInsignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus?by Dusti BowlingThe War that Saved My Life?by Kimberly Brubaker BradleyGym Candy by Carl DeukerThe Ruins of Gorlan?by?John FlanaganThe Boys Who Challenged Hitler ?by?Phillip HooseHouse Arrest ?by?K.
