MH17DRIVE PARTITIONING AND IMAGE STORAGEThe installation of Windows 7 OS was made onto a hard disk drive as an EFI and primary active partition utilizing the total disk drive’s storage capacity. Often it is advantageous to divide a disk drive’s storage capacity into more that one partition by creating an extended partition. Within the extended partition, logical drives can be established and used for unique file storage. INITIAL CHECK1. Boot the PC from your HDD and verify that it is functioning properly.2. Open “Computer” and record the Hard Disk Drive found and its total size.3. Close “Computer”.PARTITION CREATION1. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.2. Select Disk Management. Note the graphic display that shows all the disk information under Windows OS.3. In the bar graph display, select the primary partition. It will highlight “grey”.4. Right click on the primary partition to bring up the context menu. Select “Shrink Volume…”5. In the “Enter the amount of space to shrink in MB:”, type in the value 20000. This is 20GB.6. Click <Shrink>. After a few seconds, the new unallocated partition will appear.7. Right click on the unallocated partition and select “New Simple Volume…” A wizard will launch.8. Click <Next>. At the “Specify Volume Size”, <NEXT>.9. At “Assign Drive Letter or Path”, <NEXT>.10. At “Format Partition”, type the Volume label Image. <NEXT>.11. Instructor check.______12. Click <FINISH>. The process will begin. Note the results in the Disk Management display.13. Close all open windows and return to the desktop.CHECK1. Open “Computer” and record the Hard Disk Drives found and their total size.2. Close “Computer”.3. Insert the Acronis disk in the optical drive. Shut down the PC.ACRONIS1. Power on the PC and use F12 to show the boot menu. Select the optical drive.2. In the Acronis menu, select “Acronis True Image 64bit”. Acronis will load.3. At the main menu, select Back Up My Disks.4. At “Partitions to back up”, only check your drive’s Primary Partition and EFI System partition. Be careful here! <NEXT>.5. At “Target backup archive”, <BROWSE>.6. Select the Image partition as the location and type a meaningful filename for the archive file. <OK>.7. At “Target backup archive”, select “Backup options”.8. Select “Archive validation” and check the box to validate the archive when it is created. <FINISH>.9. Instructor check.______10. <PROCEED>. The process will take about 15 minutes.11. When completed, <OK>. Eject the Acronis disk and close the program. The PC will restart.HIDING the IMAGE PARTITION1. Boot the PC from your HDD.2. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.3. Select Disk Management. Note the graphic display that shows all the disk information under Windows OS.3. In the bar graph display, select the Image partition. It will highlight “grey”.4. Right click on the Image partition to bring up the context menu. Select “Change Drive Letter and Paths…”5. In the Change Drive Letter and Paths menu, the drive letter assigned to the Image partition should be highlighted.6. Click <REMOVE>. Click <YES> at the warning. Note the change in the display for the Image partition.7. Close all open windows and return to the desktop.FINAL CHECK1. Open “Computer” and record the Hard Disk Drives found and their total size. Note that the Image drive is hidden.2. Instructor check.______3. Close all open windows, and shut down the PC. ................
