Setup guide for DJ decks with PAS

Setting up sound equipment has this sequence:

• Move the equipment to their positions for the gig

• Connect equipment with supplied signal and mains cables

• Check connections

• Check amp and mixer volumes at 25%

• Connect to mains and switch on (amps last)

• Sound check

[1] LINE input (2x RCA phono), for connecting CD decks and MP3 players.

[2] PHONO input (2x RCA phono), for vinyl turntables.

[3] CHASSIS earth, this screw terminal is for connecting turntable earth leads to reduce hum, buzz or similar audible noise getting into the system.

[4] INPUT SELECT switch, Selects either the LINE input or the PHONO input as the source to the channel. Switch is IN for vinyl, or OUT for CD/ MP3.

[5] INPUT LEVEL, needed to adjust the input gain into the mixer channel. These will be adjusted so the channel meter lights show green and yellow, but not red.

[9] MIX output (2x TRS jack), the main stereo output for PAS.

[10] MAINS input (IEC socket), for the mains lead.

[12] POWER ON, turns the XOne32 console on or off. Only do this after all the connections are made and checked. Always turn PAS on last and off first.

Connect the Allen & Heath XOne32 DJ mixer

Connect the CD decks [1] to channels 1 & 3 using phono to phono leads, MP3 player [1] to channel 2 using a phono to mini-jack lead. Make sure the input select switches [4] are out for all these channels.

The phono leads from XOne32 DJ mixer connect to 5 on DNS3000 above.

The phono leads from XOne32 DJ mixer connect to 6 on DNS5000 above.

Connect the vinyl decks [2] to channels 1 & 3 using the deck phono leads. Connect the vinyl deck earth leads to chassis earth screw terminal [3]. Make sure the input select switches [4] are in for the vinyl channels.

Connect the mains lead to MAINS input [10].

Connect the Allen & Heath XOne32 DJ mixer…

Connect the MIX output [9] to PAS using jack to jack leads pair.

The jack to jack leads pair from XOne32 DJ mixer are orange in the photo above connect to the line in sockets on PAS above.

Bose PAS L1 sound system

Connect PAS to the mains, PAS remote control and PAS bass sub speaker.

Slide speaker lower pole into PAS base. Upper speaker pole into lower pole.

Do not turn mains on yet.

Sound check

Check all cables are in place and securely connected.

Check both PAS line in gain control knobs are half way round.

Check the XOne32 input level knobs [5] are half way round.

Check the main mix volume knob [29] is at 25%

Turn mains on to decks and switch decks on.

Turn mains on to XOne32 DJ mixer and switch on.

Turn mains on to PAS and switch on.

When carrying out a sound check use your ears to check nothing is distorted.

Sound check…

Insert and play a CD using one of the decks.

DNS3000 (8) to play DNS5000 (9) to play

The XOne32 channel meter [16] for the channel should show. Adjust channel input level gain knob [5] so the channel meter lights show green and yellow, but not red.

Use the channel fader [19] and sound should come out of PAS for the music. If it does not:

1. make sure the crossfader [20] is selecting the channel

2. Check the PAS remote volume control is not turned right down.

Denon CD decks

Decks play one track by default then stop. If you want to play a whole CD, tap Cont button until Cont shows in display.

Dismantling PAS

Do not use force!! A button on the side near join of speaker poles separates them and there’s a large button you stand on the PAS base to loosen bottom pole.
