Intramural 5-on-5 Basketball Roster - Boston University



Important notes for captains regarding Spring 2018 semester

We here at BU Intramural Sports want to do everything in our power to make you a schedule that works well for your team. Please read the notes below, and provide us with any and all information we may need to help us make you the best possible schedule.

1. Though it should go without saying, please ask your teammates when they can play BEFORE submitting your roster. Making changes to a 60+ team schedule after it is made is not always possible and no one likes forfeits.

2. When submitting rosters, teams must list availability for at least 8 hours per week. Therefore, if you say that you are available on Mondays with no restrictions, you would be available for 5 hours (Games are played 6-11pm). If you choose Mondays but also indicate that you cannot play from 6-8, you would only be available for 3 hours (8-11). Also, if you list that you are available for Wednesdays, you may not list more than more two Wednesdays as conflicts. While we understand that everyone is busy, we require a certain level of flexibility in order to attempt to accommodate all teams.

3. Please be sure to note any other specific days/times that your team would prefer not to play on your roster (or in the body of your email if you need more space). Please look ahead and help us make a schedule that will work for you.

4. SPECIAL DATES: Please consider this information when listing what days/times your team is available on your roster form:

a. We WILL hold games on Super Bowl Sunday from Noon-4pm (aka not during the game which kicks off at 5:30pm)

b. We WILL hold games on President’s Day (Monday, February 19), as well as on both nights of Beanpot Hockey (Monday, February 5 and Monday, February 12)

c. Tuesday, February 20 will be treated as a MONDAY schedule (as per BU’s academic calendar)

d. The league will finish BEFORE Patriot’s Day Weekend (Marathon Monday)

5. Rosters are due by the date and time posted on our website. After the initial schedule is made, it will be posted on our site and communicated to teams via email. Teams will then have 24 hours to submit to us requests for changes. We will then take the following 24 hours to attempt to address as many of these requests as possible. Our ability to make changes to your schedule at that point is dependent on the availability of the team(s) you are playing, as well as the availability of facility space at that time. To ensure you get the best possible schedule for your team, please refer back to point #1.

6. PLAYOFF STATEMENT: The availability you submit on your roster will be used to build your REGULAR SEASON schedule. Because we do not know at the beginning of the season which teams will be advancing to playoffs, the playoff bracket is made ahead of time WITHOUT regard to the availability of any one team. This means that your team may very well end up landing in a spot in the bracket that includes nights on which you did not play on during the regular season. It is the responsibility of each team captain to look ahead at the bracket, deduce when their playoff games might land, and plan accordingly as playoff games are not rescheduled by request unless they conflict with another Intramural Sport. Planning accordingly may include but is not limited to adding additional players to your team.
