`-571499114300Good Evening Murphy Community,I have been so proud recently of our Murphy teachers, students and families as they have demonstrated that they "RISE UP" in the face of adversity. This commitment to our learning and growth has been clearly evident during this remote school closure as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, as attendance in remote learning classes and work completion rates are high from students in K-8. Many thanks to all of you for this overall effort! This past week has been a tumultuous week in our country and in the city of Boston, as we react, as citizens, to the inhumane death of George Floyd and the reverberations of protest as a result. As educators, we collaborated to sort through emotions and come up with collective actions to create a more inclusive environment for our Black teachers, students and families. Personally, I can say is that I am deeply saddened and angry that we are still here dealing with clear acts of overt racism in 2020. I can also say that Black Lives Matter at the Murphy School and we support our Black / African -American colleagues, students and families. We stand in solidarity. However, it will be through our actions that our true support will be known. We can not let this moment "just pass us by." We must also educate all our students about fairness and equity and most importantly, being respectful and kind to others. Let's continue to reach out, discuss and share best practices with one another during this challenging time. It is even more important that we communicate and open important discussions and make collective, action steps as a Murphy School community to fight against racism. There are many ways to engage. One is by joining us in our second in a series of three Equity Roundtables, this coming Monday, June 8, 2020. This meeting will allow us to share remote learning updates, tackle tough, complex issues that our school faces, as well as an opportunity to think creatively about the challenges our learners face. Our goal will be to come up with strategies to not only support our learners returning to school, but perhaps think about how we can build our systemic capacity to serve our wide range of learners, moving forward. We also have the opportunity to invite and include more voices, including some of our partners.SSC/ Equity Roundtable Monday June 8-- 4:00p.mSSC/ Equity Roundtable Monday June 15--4:00p.m(A zoom link was sent to all families. If you didn’t get the link and would like to attend the meeting please email murphy@.Another way is by engaging in difficult and sometimes emotional conversations with our children and with each other. Be on the lookout for our June End of Year Calendar of events coming on Monday, June 8, 2020.Sincerely, Principal Sheppeck ................
