Many of us have felt called to take action or deepen the way we live out our values and seek support and community in this journey.?UU Mass Action, along with six other local congregations, is excited to host a multi-congregation, two part workshop series to provide congregants with an opportunity to learn and take action together with the Boston Ujima Project. The Boston Ujima Project is an ecosystem centered in working-class, Black and Brown neighborhoods and rooted in community ownership, democractic decision making, and reimagining our economy. To learn more about Ujima visit their website and watch this short introduction video.??In these workshops, we will learn about the historic and current structures that created the racial wealth gap from the lens of our UU values, and provide space for reflection. We will learn about Ujima’s Faith Network and how congregations can begin to connect and support their work. In our second workshop, we will invite participants to learn about and consider contributing to Ujima’s Fund (the only democratically run community investment fund in the US!).?We invite you to join us!Sunday, February 7th 5:00-6:30pm: Ujima 101 Workshop - Learn about the context of wealth inequality and the Boston Ujima Project?Sunday February 21st 5:00-6:30pm: Ujima Investment Workshop - learn about opportunities to volunteer as part of the Boston Ujima Project, and invest in the Boston Ujima Fund as part of a community of UUs.RSVP here! ?We strongly encourage you to attend both workshops if you can, and if you can’t make them both, plan to watch the recordings and talk with congregants who did join to learn what you missed.??Reach out to Tod Hibbard for more information.Help Former Y2Y Guests Remain in HousingRecently, Y2Y has been in the process of placing former guests in permanent Section 8 housing.? Membership consists of 41 congregations in Greater Boston representing more than 50,000 individuals. GBIO organizes people and institutions at neighborhood, city, and state levels.First Parish in Cambridge UU joined GBIO in October 2015, and we have been part of building congregational support for many public actions, including our two-year health care legislative campaign. After the Covid-19 and police brutality crises this year, GBIO responded by organizing an effective Racial Justice Campaign incorporating police reform, housing, health care and decarceration. We have been part of organizing, educating and advocating through thousands of emails, phone calls, tweets, and Zoom meetings, for these issues. The most significant result has been contributing to significant police reform legislation, which was approved by the Legislature and signed by the governor.“Nothing like this has been achieved before in Massachusetts in the history of our state,” said Beverly Williams, co-chair of Greater Boston Interfaith Organization (GBIO) about the bill that passed in the legislature. “Having an independent and community-inclusivePeace Officer Standards and Training (POST) commission, one that has real subpoena power, will be a national first.” Now this legislation is the law.?A second legislative priority, health care reform, was approved and signed by the Governor.?Another major accomplishment is progress towards “Refounding” GBIO by adding more people of color as staff organizers, leaders; and through many new organizational members; and an antiracist training for church representatives, (i.e. liaisons). For more information, contact our liaisons: Cassie White (cassondraywhite@) orElizabeth Kline (elizkline@).Join Rosalie Anders on Monday, January 25, at 5:00 pm for a social gathering on Zoom.?
