Cohen for the “Research Mentoring Award”. I have been very fortunate to work under Dr. Richard A. Cohen as my mentor from February 2006 to the present at Boston University. From the beginning, Dr. Cohen was very supportive and allocated laboratory space, resources and personnel for many years. He offered me corresponding authorship of scientific publications that were under my lead that helped me further my track record.Due to his willingness to support my career financially and administratively as well as mentoring, I was able to further my academic career and became an independent principal investigator with my own NIH funding on July 1st of this year. He continues to provide startup funds and advise for my lab, for which I am more than grateful. Besides me, Dr. Cohen is currently supporting and mentoring three other faculty members (see below) at the level of an assistant professor. Of note, Dr. Cohen is supporting the current faculty salaries to 95%, from his grant money and only 5% are provided by the Department of Medicine. I admire Dr. Cohen for his gentle but determined way of leading people. He has always acted with highest moral standards and integrity. His generosity and unwavering belief in an individual’s ability to develop and grow in the scientific environment provided by Boston University and the Vascular Biology Section are noteworthy. Furthermore, he is very approachable at any time for faculty, students and staff, providing us with advice on how to organize research, structure and write papers and obtain grant support. Here is a short summary of faculty that was mentored by Dr. Cohen over the last fifteen years:Dr. Patrick J.
