CREATING A TRAVEL BROCHURE

Mrs. King- Psychology 2014
Background
Science continues to make strides in understanding how the brain, central nervous system, and endocrine system work. Much of the research is directed at discovering ways to treat and cure serious neurological diseases and injuries. Can drugs be developed to block the progress of a disease? Can gene therapy alter the progression of a disease or repair damaged tissue? Will electrical stimulation provide long-lasting relief from symptoms of various disorders? Can hormone therapy delay the onset of various disorders? Researchers explore many avenues to unlock the body’s mysteries.
Objective: Create a brochure about a brain disease or disorder including symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment.
1. Create a 6-paneled brochure (by hand or computer – no extra points will be given for a computer generated one – neatness does count though).
2. The panels should be written in complete sentences and should have about a paragraph for each part.
• Part I: Creative title, image, and your names.
• Part II: Part of brain affected: this includes how this disease/disorder is
diagnosed.
• Part III: Symptoms: Includes the impact on behavior and affect on the
brain.
• Part IV: Treatment: What is the common treatment, and is there an
experimental treatment? Are there common medications taken? What do those medicines try to do? How are psychologists helping people cope with this disease/disorder
• Part V: Research: What research is being done on this topic? Where?
• Part VI: Sources: List of sources including database research
3. Each panel should have at least one picture (for Panel I, include an image of the brain.)
4. You will also be graded on how neatly this is done:
• If you write, it should be in black or blue pen ( pre-write everything first)
• Can be typed (computer generated – partially or entirely)
• Brochure must be neat and attractive with proper spelling and grammar.
5. The brochure should follow the directions exactly. If you neglect to do a part, you will be penalized heavily. DO NOT COPY INFORMATION FROM THE BOOK OR INTERNET as it will result in a 0 on the project.
