Round Table

Earl the pearl cruised to Pennsylvania on vacation over a two-week period – said he got 18 miles to the gallon in his beast.

Mark went to Kansas Motor Speedway in KC over the last weekend to watch the IRL races. It was a birthday gift from his wife

We had one new member: His name is John Habermann he has a 70 Chevelle with a Merlin 540 which makes 630 horse power (that’s a lot of horses under one roof).

Ruben said Autozone has a 10% discount for car club members. Says he should know since he has been in there about everyday. In case you are wondering he has been working on his daughter Goria’s Camaro

I don’t always comment on round table, but don’t let that deter any of you from speaking up

Keep On Chevelling!!!

EMAIL NOTES

Even though this is non-Chevelle related, I thought somebody might be interested

For those who haven't heard, BMW USA supports the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. They have a fleet of new BMWs that circulate the country and test drives donate $1.00 per mile to the Breast Cancer Foundation (Drive for a Cure). Here's the good news -- it's BMW's dollars as well as BMW's cars. In past years a few of us have taken a day of vacation and gone up to Kansas City to just spend the day in test-drives. We made a point of letting people know we were up from Wichita. So this year the Drive for a Cure is going to stop at Wichita, Joe Self BMW, on 21 August. Come out and drive a new Bimmer -- it's for a good cause. Or take a day off work and drive them all. :-)

AUTOMOBILIA

JULY 8, 2006

It was an overcast & sultry evening; rain was in the forecast for later on in the evening. Hey that didn’t keep at least 25 members of the car club from missing the biggest party & show.

We decided at the last car club meeting to meet at Wendy’s about 5:00. From there we motored down the road in a single file. We finally reached the front of the show as we idled waiting for our turn to show off our ride with pride. We drove by spectators as they stumbled to feel the rumble under their feet.

As we motored on down to the right where it was a little tight and made our way through the streets where we began to hear the awesome beats of the meet. The sound of music, the sound of people, the sound of cars. What a thrill!

It’s not just about the cars or downtown bars, the food, fun, bands, not the talk – talk is cheap but the comradery of the sport and making new friends around the court. All in all the show was a great success where it’s cool too be late.

Almost all was fine as we were in our line with a few minor scrapes – yes it did happen to one of our own members Kevin & Diana’s olds. If that wasn’t bad enough it was side swiped by a wheelchair. Then did somebody call for an ambulance?; well they must have because the rescue team tried to squeeze between Brent’s Chevelle & our El Camino. I don’t think so, we sprang into action with no altercation, and everything was good with the world again.

Did I mention about Jack with him around there was no lack of music. When the bands were breaking Jack was taking the opportunity to crank up the tunes. Nobody minded to hear the oldies but goodies, after all that’s who we are and what we drive.

When the show was toward the end and most of the members motored for home. The clock struck twelve and there stood 3 rides in luck. We filed in single file again as we made our way toward Douglas. The streets were lined with young & old with cops on every corner.

A Red Rocket Chevelle lead the trio with a White ground-pounder in the middle and an El Camino at the back on the attack. So who do you think laid rubber under the bridge and made the fans scream & whistle as we streamed by like a missile? The El Camino was the one as Bill & I was headed for fun as it came to an end. Standing on the side were uniforms waiting to lend a hand. In our amaze we were not tazed. We think they had looked the other way thinking they would catch us another day, but it didn’t come as a blow because we were not in tow or going to jail without any bail. The fun was over and didn’t get pulled over. We headed for home with all of our chrome and called it a successful day

The moral of this story is life is too short, have fun. Those who come together, park together, and have fun together. Hey count it as a bonus you have extra eyes watching over your ride.

Keep Clubbing!

A note from the Hardin family…

We just wanted to thank those of you who were able to make the car show to benefit Drew Holland. He is doing better and will be returning to Denver next week to find out how he is responding to the treatment. The Holland’s appreciate your kindness and contributions that will help to ease their financial burden.

Again “Thank You All.”

We are so proud to be associated with such an awesome car club and to have such great friends.

Keep on Chevelling!

My coworker has started making custom license plates out of 1/4" polished aluminum.  These are awesome looking and will last a lifetime.  They are not cheaply made or cheaply bought, but worth it.  Most run $50 and up.  Could you please list these in your newsletter for me.  These pictures can be seen at:

His contact info is larry@ or 686-5810.  I also have higher resolution copies of these if you want them.  The swirl marks you see in the plates are very flat, just look textured from the router bit.  Most paint the cut out parts to match their car color.  Th e club could also get a bunch made of the same design and save some money since design and setup are the true cost of these.

QUESTRIONS & ANSWERS

When do we have to take our cars out of the show at Regionals? Would that be Saturday night or Sunday morning? It’s strictly a security question.

CAR TOONS

When the man at the auto repair shop told me that it would cost $1400 to fix my car's air conditioning, I just laughed at him and said, "I can fix it myself for a whole lot less than that!" MY MOMMA DIDN'T RAISE NO FOOL!!!!!!!

SOMETHING FUNNY

I usually don’t write or comment about round table, but Dave Gohring had a story to tell. I know what you all are thinking but it was a story in which a lesson could be learned.

Anyway Dave was putting chrome on his convertible about 5 years ago, which he ordered from muscle factory. I know what you all are still thinking, but he really does spend money. Well he ordered a nice wood steering wheel & when he got it, he put it up on the shelf to work on it a later time. Well that later time didn’t come until years later because he kind of forgot about the steering wheel being up on the shelf. He got ready to put the new/old steering wheel on the car when he realized (no it was the right steering wheel) but it had two large cracks in it. So being Dave he still had the original receipt, box, etc., with a letter explaining what had happened. One week later he heard from the Manager & Dave thinking by now nothing would come from it; after all it had been 5 years. Anyway the Manager told Dave that he would send him a brand new steering wheel. One week later Dave had a brand new wheel. It must have been like Christmas.

There is moral behind this story:

Buy your products from a reputable Dealer or store

Save your receipt

First and foremost don’t wait 5 years to use the part

Maybe some of you guys need a little organization in your shop or garage. I would be happy to help you but I do charge by the hour not the week not the month the year, but by the hour

I also have experience in decorating in eclectic/post modern/what a guy likes stuff – also by the hour
