(Insert Local Organization Name) to Exhibit  The Giant Colon as Part of Local Effort to Teach About Colorectal Cancer Prevention and the diseases of the Colon

WHAT:          To raise awareness in (name of local community) that colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer of men and women combined in  Canada, (insert Organization name) will host (insert event name) featuring the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada’s (CCAC) Giant Colon.  At the event, (insert one or two lines with more details about your event/activity, if needed).

(Insert Organization name) activities are in partnership with The Giant Colon Tour an educational exhibit of the CCAC. The Giant Colon exhibit is part of the CCAC campaign that seeks to educate Canadians that this disease is Preventable, Treatable and Beatable!

|WHY: |Colorectal cancer affects men and women of all races and is Preventable, Treatable and Beatable! The disease is |

| |preventable through screening and if detected early, it can be successfully treated 90 percent of the time. The |

| |lifestyles ( diet and physical activity) and population based  screening.      |

| |Colorectal cancer - cancer of the colon or rectum – is the second-leading cause of cancer death in Canada.  The |

| |disease surpasses both breast and prostate cancer in mortality. An estimated 21,500 Canadians were diagnosed with |

| |the disease last year, and approximately 8,900 died from it. |

| |An almost equal number of men and women are affected by colorectal cancer.  One in 14 men and one in 16 women are |

| |expected to develop the disease during their lifetime. One in 28 men and one in 31 women will die from it. |
