Golf Shop

Open Wednesday through Saturday, 9:00am-5:00pm

We hope everyone had a safe and fun New Year. It is hard to believe that 2010 is upon us. Even though the holiday buzz has ended and the snow and temperatures continue to fall, please remember that the Golf Shop remains open all winter long. Golf Shop hours of operation are Wednesday through Saturday, 9:00am ? 5:00pm. We are staying busy, gearing up for the 2010 season with tournament and lesson programming in addition to finding the latest and greatest in merchandise and equipment.

Winter Programming and Lessons

To help keep you warm and in golfing shape, we have designed some fun programs during these cold months. We installed indoor hitting stations located in the cart storage area. Stop by and stay loose this off-season, or better yet, allow us to fine tune your game with a lesson. We will be able to provide you with video analysis of your swing and work on the necessary fundamentals for game improvement.

In addition to video lessons, we will be hosting a complimentary rules clinic designed to educate our members on the rules of golf. The USGA has designed the rules to make the game more enjoyable and to help make us all better players. The clinic is scheduled for Saturday, January 23 at 11:00am.

Winter Golf Shop Hours

January and February Hours

Golf Shop will be open Wednesday through Saturday during the following hours: January 1 CLOSED January 2-February 28 9:00am ? 5:00pm

Lesson Tee ? Indoor Practice

It is very easy to neglect your golf game during the cold winter months. Realistically, golf in Chicago lasts for only six or seven months. Just when it seems you have made great strides in your game, winter sets in and your clubs find their way to storage for hibernation. Neglecting your golf game both mentally and physically for the five or six offseason months is detrimental for game improvement. If you want to maintain and or improve your golf ability, it is imperative to, at the minimum, have a club in your hand on a daily basis. We suggest keeping a club in your home or office year round. Make a point to take a few minutes each day to grip the club, take your setup and if you can, take a few swings. Better yet, stop by the Club and take advantage of hitting golf balls inside the cart storage area. We have two hitting bays installed to help keep the golf juices flowing all year long. Just making swings and focusing on good balance and solid contact will drastically improve your chances for lowering scores in 2010!

In addition to holding a club on a daily basis, we also suggest some positive thinking about your golf game. There are several great golf books written to help improve ones mental approach to the game of golf. A popular book is "Golf Is Not A Game of Perfect" by Dr. Bob Rotella. This inspirational book focuses on the importance of the mental approach and is a must read for those who want to better their game without working on the mechanics of the golf swing. S5208

As golf professionals, we are here to promote golf and make it more enjoyable for everyone. We encourage all of our Members to stop by and ask us the best method for game improvement. Everyone has different learning styles, different golf swings, different mental approaches and different reasons to play this great sport. Let us help take your game to the next level by developing a personalized game-improvement program! Contact Joe Titus (847) 847-3258 for more details.

Membership

Although the end of 2009 completed our fourth year of actual operations, there is a group of 95 Members who celebrated their 5th anniversary as part of Hawthorn Woods Country Club and community. This first major milestone needs to be acknowledged and will begin a tradition of honoring those anniversaries in the January newsletters of each year. All of these Members had the foresight to see past the dirt and construction equipment to envision all the beauty that our Club displays today. Everyone here at HWCC would like to say congratulations and thank you for being the pioneers of this wonderful Club.

As a special token of gratitude, we will have the first collection of 5-year Member lapel pins available for these 95 Members at the Friday, January 22nd Happy Hour from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. We hope everyone can come enjoy the fun and entertainment on this special night.

Mystery Member Number

Be on the lookout for your member number hidden somewhere in the newsletter! Call the Club if you find your Member Number and you will have the opportunity to enjoy a complimentary dinner entr?e with a glass of house wine for you and a guest at the Club...good luck!
