If you are not doing a portfolio, substitute the word “business, band, etc.”
Project Summary: State general project information, goals, and relevant background information for site design. This paragraph should be a statement overview of the project as a whole.
1. What is the basic overview of the project? Briefly include background information if relevant.
2. What is the most important purpose of your portfolio site?
3. What are the secondary goals of the new site?
4. How can you make the site stay useful and relevant?
Audience Profile: Profile the target audience. Provide enough detail to enhance everyone's understanding of who the audience is. Include some user demographic information. Your goal with this section is to answer the following: Who is the target? What do they care about? And what they do online on a daily basis?
1. Who is your target audience? Be as specific as possible.
2. What do you want people to do on your site?
Perception/Tone/Guidelines: How do you want your target audience to respond to your work? Here you must position yourself clearly.
1. What do you want your audience to think and feel about your work in relation to all the other graduate portfolios out there?
2. How will this site help achieve this goal in addition to showcasing your work? How are you using the web’s capabilities for more than just a digital version of a black portfolio? What are some additional features that could be added?
3. What adjectives can be used to describe the way you want your work to be perceived?
4. What are some specific visual goals the site should convey?
5. What are the goals of your resume and any other text on the site?
Communication Strategy: How will you convince them?
• What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience? For example: especially good with type, incorporate images and photography, concentrating on digital media, accomplished character animator who can develop fully realized characters, etc.
• How will you convey the overall message? For example: grouping together and highlighting work that most represents my strengths and organizing other projects included to show versatility and broad knowledge in a less prominent way.
• In other words, how do you convince an employer that you are better than the rest and they should hire or contract with you?
Competitive Positioning: How you are different from your competition and the factors that will make you a success?
• How is your portfolio different from your competition?
• What specifically sets you apart from your competition? What is your style/specialty/strong point?
Targeted Message: State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe the site once it is launched.
