FAFSA INFORMATION (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

The FAFSA form will be available after January 1, 2010 at fafsa. . Those students that will not be completing the financial form online will need to obtain a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) or by visiting . Students may request up to three copies of the paper application and should receive it in three to seven business days.  Seniors and their parents are encouraged to file income taxes as soon as possible. Schools that have financial aid deadlines in January will take an estimated FAFSA, but will give out estimated financial aid amounts until updated information is submitted. Ms. Medina will be conducting Financial Aid workshops by academy in the month of January.

In 1997, the Florida Legislature created the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program to reward students for their academic achievements during high school by providing funding to attend postsecondary education in Florida.

2009/2010 Florida Legislative Changes

|Students are NOT REQUIRED to enroll full-time to receive Bright Futures funding. |

|However, full-time students must earn 24 semester hours (or the equivalent) per academic year |

|Students who do not earn the required hours at the end of the 2009-10 academic year and thereafter may restore for subsequent academic years |

|Students MAY enroll part-time and receive Bright Futures funding. |

|Part-time students must enroll in a minimum of 6 hours per term (or the equivalent) |

|Part-time students must earn the required number of hours for which they were funded; see chart at ssfad/bf/renewrequiredhrs.htm |

|Students must refund to their institution the cost of any dropped or withdrawn Bright Futures funded course. |

|Florida Academic Scholars will not receive a college-related expense allowance for 2009-10. |
