INTRODUCTION

-There is more interest in military history today than ever before. Asa result more materials arc

. being published. Original_ sources have become 'more accesSible- as microfilming and photocopying , of documents, landmark texts, and manuscripts have become common practice. Post World War II generations are probing the evolution of militaryinstitutions and

the details and background of military his;ory. The interest, however_ is on many levels. Many ,0111-'4'.:fxriters cater to the American and English Civil War buffs, "living history" enthusiasts and to '

, those who enjoy vicarious milirnry experiences, At the -other end of the spectrum. academicians are writing, abiaut subjects that have never before been studied: Their

information and insights are expanding the knowledgeand tinderstand:ng of military history.,

This annotated military history bibliography hal. been prepared to aid researchers. In this

- third edition several categciries. including "ordtr of battles. -abstracts", -lineages", -statistics"

and "guide books"%haire been added to broaden the scope and usefulness of thiS bibliography.

Tlie compiler's experience in assisting correspondents, civilian researchers. ROTC history

students and-USM4 cadets has determined the subject areas emphasized. Items selected for

inclusion -are libraries. The

mostly in English, contain reliable information, and are available in most recent edition or reprinting is noted with few exceptions.
