Unit 3 spoken language studyJeremy Paxman, a skill full and debating news reporter, interviews Dizzie Rascal on a News Night special , a political programme for viewers interested in current affairs. Jeremy Paxman wants to know Dizzie Rascals, a celebrity rapper who has no knowledge on of political affairs, and his views on the inauguration of the newly elected president Baraka Obama, due to Dizzie Rascals ethnicity.Jeremy Paxman starts the interview off by discussing Dizzzie Rascals thoughts on the newly elected president. He starts off his sentence with a deixis ‘’how does it seem to you?’’ By using the word ‘’it’’ indicates that the topic has already been discussed, and Dizzie Rascal has an understanding on what is being disused. This also refers to a open ended question, he uses a open ended question to get more information and feedback from Dizzie Rascal, so his response interests the audience, also being able to keep the conversation going. Dizzie Rascals response was to give his views on the election of the new president, he responded with a false start ‘’its positive, its positive because... Dizzie Rascal reacts in this way because millions of his fans and political people are watching him on live TV, this follows on with a self correction. His language and response has an effect on the audience causing them to think that he is not knowledgeable and is quit unsure of what to say.To politely re-establish control of the interview Jeremy Paxman interrupts, ‘Sorry to interrupt you’’, by Jeremy Paxman doing this he is breaking the rule of politeness, this is because Dizzie Rascal is digressing away from the topic and by seeing this Jeremy Paxman try to steer him back in to the topic. He does this a formal way due to the audience who expect Jeremy Paxman to speck formally, he does this by using a hedge, ‘’sorry’’ he directs this in a less assertive way towards Dizzie Rascal. After steering the conversation in to place, Jeremy Paxman pauses ‘’but...’’, to be able to give Dizzzie Rascal time to think and improvise. Dizzie Rascal replies to this question by saying ‘’yeah in time’’ , he smiles after saying this to indicate ,that he is not certain about what has been asked , and has nothing more to say. Jeremy Paxman follows on with saying ‘’your rather positive’’, he says this in a quit derogatory way showing that he has interest in what Dizzie Rascal has just said, this cause the audience think that Dizzie Rascal has just said is pointless.Dizzie Rascal uses his idiolect quit often ‘’yeah man ‘’, this is an informal way of specking so it effects the audience causing the audience to think that his interests are different and also showing that his career reflects in his idiolect . This also is Dizzie Rascals way of addressing Jeremy Paxman. Further on in the conversation Dizzie Rascal digresses due to the lack of knowlegde about the conversation ‘’if you believe you can achieve init’’, he digresses again due to the fact that he doesn’t want to look as if he doesn’t know what he is saying, so he tries to give the topic a new approach. Dizzzie Rascal responds in an informal way to keep himself confident and less hesitated in front of the audience. Jeremy paxman responds by addressing Dizzie Rascal, to refocus him in the topic being discussed. He asks a question to get Dizzie Rascal thinking, ‘’Do you believe in political parties’’, he poetically puts the stress on believe to emphasis, and make sure that Dizzie Rascal is staying relevant. This affects the audience by losing their interest in the show.Further on in the conversation Dizzie Rascal uses a filler ‘’em..’’ , this is his reaction because he is unsure on what to say ,so he buys himself time to re-think and respond. He then replies by using a hesitation ‘’what i mean. It is what it is, politics...’’. he hesitates due to being nervous at the fact of being live on TV, so he breaks tension by using humour to make the situation less tense and more comfortable. The effect of this is causing the audience to think he is not taking the topic serous enough. He carries on by saying ‘’i think people, like as a whole make a difference’’ by doing this he contradicts himself on what he said at the start of the conversation, and this being his a proper option. This affects the audience by causing them to think that Dizzie Rascal in two minded and cannot stick to one option. On the other hand Dizzie Rascal specks with more fluency, and due to this he lacks hesitation, ’’yeah to help boost the morel’ ’.Dizzzie rascals response is more stronger and he is more confidant in what he is saying causing the audience to change their perspective towards Dizzie Rascal.Between the conversation a interviewee called Baroness Amos what was not heard whilst talking ‘’here in the UK , we don’t talk much about the nature of Britishnes..’’ , she breaks the rule of politeness and realises this so she lowers her voice due to the response she is ignored. This causes the audience to think that her views are not important and Dizzie Rascals perspective is more important. The conversation redirects towards Jeremy paxaman as he says ‘’Dizzie Rascal ,Mr Rascal’’, Jeremy Paxman uses a reputation to silence the interruption and presence of Baroness Amos, and by doing this he redirects the conversation towards Dizzie Rascal. This immediate reaction by Jeremy Paxman towards Baroness Amos causes the audience to think that Jeremy Paxman himself is interested in what Dizzie Rascal has to say .Jeremy Paxman does this because the audience would be more interested in Dizzie Rascals views as he as no knowledge of politics causing it to be more interesting and him being a remodel to many fans has a effect on others and himself considering what he says. Dizzie Rascal responds with a immediate and positive response ‘’Of course I’m British man! You know mw man’’, Dizzie Rascals idiolect reflects in his response as he refers to Jeremy paxman as ‘’man’’ Dizzie Rascal uses slang, this also can be considered as an address term for Jeremy Paxman. Dizzie Rascal uses informal language to make himself feel comfortable and less tense as he feels more confidant whilst specking with his idiolect .To Make it more believable he uses a explanatory sentence, he does this to prove his point and make himself sound right, in front of the audience and Jeremy Paxman. Further on Dizzie Rascal uses a list of three, ‘’i think a black man, Martian man , purple man can run the country’’, Dizzie rascals response may cause the audience to think he being very credible, and is digressing away from what is been asked, this causes the audience to think that Dizzie Rascal has nothing more to say so he digresses. Dizzie Rascal follows on by supporting his previous point ‘’right by the people’’, he does this to assure the audience on what his point is, on the fact that he cares about the people and the nation and their importance. The effect of this is to cause the audience to think he a considering, this could also cause them to change their perspective about him.As the interview comes to an end, Jeremy Paxman digresses, ’’well why don’t you run for president?’’By doing this it is indicting that Jeremy Paxman is giving Dizzie Rascal time to rest as the interview is at a end, this is a very informal way of speaking as he address Dizzie Rascal as ‘’you’’. Dizzie Rascal final response is ‘’see this is a very good idea’’ Dizzie Rascal says this in a humorous way, also forwarding on to what he really wanted to say, ‘’And it all was through hip hop’’, This indicates that this is what Dizzie Rascals main message was, This causes the audience to think once again that he unknowledgeable of politics and always refers to what he is best at hip hop.Mo Farah Interview with BBC’S Phil JonesAfter Mo Farah wins the 5000m finals, at the London Olympics he is interviewed by a BBC news reporter called Phil Jones, regarding his feelings and his motivation on what lead him to victory.News reporter Phil Jones gets in on the opportunity on how Mo Farah is feeling after winning the London Olympics. He starts of by addressing Mo Farah in a very informal way despite it is the start of the interview, ‘’mo’’, he addresses him in this term to seem more friendly and less serious considering the fact that Mo Farah has just ran 5000m. He carries on by using a open ended question ‘’can you describe how your feeling?’’.He does this to capture more information on what Mo Farah is feeling, similarly Jeremy Paxaman uses a open ended question, this causes the audience to be intrigued, and more focused on what the interviewee has to say. In response to Phil Jones question Mo Farah replies with a filer, ’’Ahh its just unbeliable ’’, the filler is used to start him up by giving him time to think, this may cause the audience to Think he is over joyed and exhilarated, this is showed when he uses the phrase, ’’unbelievable’’, giving himself time to come out of all the joy and excitement and respond to Phil Jones question. Mo Farah uses informal language when first responding by using the term, ’’ahh’’. Further on in the conversation Mo Farah uses many contractions such as, ‘’goin’’ and ‘’y’know’’. This is a part of Mo Fara’s idolectand causes him to talk this way.Mo Farah’s second response starts off with a false start , ‘’ no th’ the American guy’’ he responds in this way due to being over whelmed at the of winning , and due to this he is speechless ,also including the fact that he has ran a 5000m race and is tired and consequently he is trying to capture his speech back, by using a false start it gives him to time to respond, he follows this response on with a self correction, this shows that Mo Farah has realized his mistake and re-corrects himself, this causes the audience to think that he is nervous and at the same time excited and this causing his speech to be informal, his excitement is also shown when he says ‘’I knew I just had to hold it on’’, this positive quote shows his joy and excitement. Similarly Dizzie Rascal also uses a false start and then follows it on with a self correction, ‘’it’s positive, its positive because, but they both are used for different reasons, Mo Farah uses a false start due to him being excited and Dizzie Rascal uses it due to him being nervous.Mo Farah digresses later on in the interview ‘’my two girls who are coming’’ by doing this he adhearse’s the maxim of quality meaning he is telling the truth but he vidates the maxim of relation by digressing unintentionally, however Phil allows the digression due to the special moment. This causes the audience to think that Mo Farah is unintentionally digressing due the over whelming moment, and he is not realising that he is digressing.Phil Jones relies in a much more friendly manner ‘’Hahahaaha’’ this is a non-variable feature of adhearse principle of comaradenes. Phil Jones responds in this way to be more polite due to a delicate topic, and this is why he does not interrupt whilst Mo Farah is digresses.Later on in the interview Mo Farah digresses again but in this case he is not able to back up his point and mumbles ‘’doctors said within, you’ve got twelve days.....’’ this shows that Mo Farah i not able to finish off what he is saying due to the fact the he has nothing to back it up with. This cause the audience to think that Mo Farah is getting carried away and is saying things that are not true or cannot be backed up.Likewise further on in the interview Mo Farah get carried away and uses a subordinate clause, ‘’ first of September I’m having a big auction err charity, the Mo Farah Foundation’’ B doing is mo Farah is getting ahead of himself by saying something and not explaining it in detail, by doing this is cause the audience to be confused, he does this because he his nervous and says things that are irregular. At the end of the interview Mo Farah uses a reputation ‘’ grafting and grafting’’ this is used because he has come to the end of the interview and doesn’t know what to say due to this he doesn’t know what more to say so he repeats himself. This causes the audience to think that Mo Farah is nervous and tried and nothing more to say. ................
