SEPTEMBER'S FEASTS OF OUR LADY

The month of September contains three

beautiful Feasts in honor of Our Blessed Mother:

Her Nativity, on September 8; Her Holy Name, on

September 12; Her Seven Sorrows on September 15.

Saint Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153), wrote very

beautifully, likening Our Lady to a star. Just as a star

gives off its light, without losing any of its energy, so

Our Lady brought forth the Child Jesus, without

losing Her virginity. Part of his beautiful sermon is

read in our Breviary on the Feast of the Holy Name

of Mary, and we share it with you here for your

consolation.

WELCOME HOLY SAVIOUR

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION STUDENTS!

This Sunday, our Parish's Religious Education

(CCD) Program begins. We welcome our young

people, and we thank our Director, Amy Cagliola

Smith, for her excellent and patient direction of the

program, and for the dedicated teachers, who give of

their time. It is not too late to register, if you have not

done so yet.

"Mary is that bright and incomparable star,

whom we need to see raised above this vast sea,

shining by her merits, and giving us light by her

example: All of you, who see yourselves amid the

tides of this world, tossed by storms and tempests,

rather than walking on the land, do not turn your eyes

away from this shining star, unless you wish to be

overwhelmed by the hurricane. If temptation storms,

or you fall upon the rocks of tribulation, look to the

star: Call upon Mary! If you are tossed by the waves

of pride or ambition, detraction or envy, look to the

star, call upon Mary. If anger or avarice or the desires

of the flesh dash against the ship of your soul, turn

your eyes to Mary. If troubled by the enormity of

your sins, ashamed of your guilty conscience,

terrified by dread of the judgment, you begin to sink

into the gulf of sadness or the abyss of despair, think

of Mary. In dangers, in anguish, in doubt, think of

Mary, call upon Mary. Let her name be ever on your

lips, ever in your heart; and to better obtain the help

of her prayers, imitate the example of her life:

Following her, you will not stray; invoking her, you

will not despair; thinking of her, you will not wander;

upheld by her, you will not fall; shielded by her, you

will not fear; guided by her, you will not grow weary;

favored by her, you will reach your goal."

ALTAR LINENS

With the upcoming retirement of our

dedicated Marie Troilo, who has done such an

outstanding job with the cooking and laundry in the

Rectory for over twenty-three years, we have to

make some adjustments.

One of the areas that Marie has taken care of

has been the laundering of the Altar Linens. These

are the small linens used with the chalice

(purificator) and the Altar (corporal and finger

towels). The priest does the "first wash" of the

corporals and purificators, which touch the Body and

Blood of Christ, in a special sink, called the

sacrarium, which drains into the ground and not the

sewer. Then, they are laundered as with any whites,

and some starch is used.

I am asking now for a volunteer/s who

would be willing to take this up. Once a week, or

once every two weeks is fine. There would usually

be five or six purificators a week, the same number

of finger towels, and the corporals, only

occasionally. They can be picked up after any Mass

and returned the same way. We have another

dedicated volunteer who takes care of the linens at

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, so this would just be for

Holy Saviour Church.

If you are interested, or have any questions,

please call Monsignor.

COMMUNITY NEWS

SAVING OUR SOULS

"Christian love bears evil, but it does not

tolerate it. It does penance for the sins of others,

but it is not broadminded about sin. Real love

involves real hatred: whoever has lost the power

of moral indignation and the urge to drive the

buyers and sellers from the temples has also lost a

living, fervent love of Truth."
